Greetings

Well, I bought this game a while ago but finished MM6 first. Now that I try to play this game, it doesn't work at all. I installed the gog version of course no unofficial patches. I had set the game to administrator mode like always I click on the exe, and after the 3do commercial the game crashes, no matter what. I try to make it work on win7.

The interesting thing I found out that, the game exe files locks itself in win95 compatibility mode and it is not changeable at all.

Is there any way to make this game work in vanilla mode or I am screwed?

You should be able to control the game's compatibility as well as how it launches. There should be a launcher 'utility' that comes up every time the game is started, and you can select either software or 3D settings.

In the game folder, right-clicking on MM7.exe should allow you to change the compatibility.

You WILL likely need the latest GrayFace patch, which can be downloaded from:

You can change it but first you have to click the button "change settings for all users" (at the bottom) and there you should disable Win95 compatibility. After clicking "ok" you should be able to change the settings (they won't be grayed out anymore)
So? Did it help to change the compatibility options? If not try to do what DaveO-MM suggested - install GrayFace patch. And if it doesn't help (or you don't want to install it) we will think of something else
Well both of you helped me in different ways. I am thankful for that. For some reason when I install the MM7 it from gog, it just locks the game to win95 but that all user change solved it. On the other hand the grayface patch solved my problem and tha game works fine since I patched it up with it.

Now my only problem is that the music is not working at all but I saw something on this forum which can solve it hopefully.

Thank you for both of the answers :)
The most important part is you can now enjoy this great game!
Yes :) I solved the music problem with the cfg file, that goes for ERRIS.

I grew up with these games, and I play them one by one again as I have time for it.

Thank you again for the tips.

You are welcome. As for me MMVII was the first game from the series that I've ever played and I guess that's why it's my favorite one. Nostalgia...

I think you should mark the topic as "solved". I guess it can be slightly difficult but just take your pick and choose the tip which you find more useful.
This worked on my version of MM7 as of November 2021 with the Greyface patch. It started to crash once I reached the Red Dwarf Mines and got to the second level with the medusas. Fixed it once I changed the .ini filed as described above.
