This is no doubt a dumb question, but here goes...

I'm watching a play through of MM7 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAIbDkcPNlc

It is the first video (Emerald Isle), where he is about to go and kill the dragon, but he needs to purchase 'recharge item' from the shop before going into to the cave, so that he can recharge the wand when the time time comes.

So at approx. 39:00mins he saves/reloads to check if what he needs to buy is available in the shop. I never knew you could do this. I remember doing the save/reload when having the ore changed into various things in Erathia.


Anyway, back to this walkthrough, I've tried doing what he does in the clip, and I thought it worked the first couple of times, but perhaps I imagined it. Now every time I reload, the shop content is exactly the same. In this walkthrough I'm watching, the contents changes every time, and he is able to finally buy what he needs.

What am I doing wrong?

The contents of the shop is set once you enter it. If you already poked your head in there before saving, then you're going to have to wait until the island resets before you can save/load to change the shop contents. This will take either 3 or 6 months of game time, I believe. On the bright side, that means the luck well will also have reset, so you can get a few extra stat points if your luck isn't too high. ;)

As for the dragon: you don't need to use the fireball wand to kill it. It is entirely possible to kill it just using arrows, which is how I do it. Just move in a large circle around it, stopping to shoot it in between the times when it stops to shoot you. Get some kind of bow or crossbow for everyone before starting, to make this process take less of your time.

Thanks Bookwyrm627 - it seems common sense prevails. I'm thinking from your reply, that I must of gone into the shop without realising, and then saved game.

I started a new game (couldn't stand to wait 3-6 months!) and made sure to save before going in the first time. Worked like a charm and I was able to get what I needed. (I love these games but I kinda suck at them, so I'll take your word on killing the dragon with just arrows, and try my luck with the wand :) ). Thanks for your help.

Arrows uses the same principle as the wand, it just takes longer and doesn't use wand charges. Use the Day of the Gods pedestal, Fire resist pedestal, and the fire resist well. Move out of the way when the dragon shoots, then spin toward him and hit "A" a bunch of times to shoot back, then spin back to your path and move to dodge his next shot. Walk in a large circle in his layer, and he'll do the same.
