Hi,

MM6 crashes when I try to select an item in one of my character's inventories.

The error message reads:

MM7 Critical Error

Might & Magic VII has crashed

0xC0000005: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access/

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Might and Magic 6\crashdumps\MM6.exe 23.03.2018 21-55-29.dmp

No idea why it references MM7, as I am trying to play 6.

I have downloaded and installed the Grayface patch, I try running the game as aadministrator, and have set compatability mode for Windows XP.

Please help!

Thanks.

Have you tried installing the standalone installer and outside programs files?
I've downloaded the game through the backup copy and installed without using Galaxy, but this has not made a difference.
Does it happen with every game or just with one save game?
It happens with every game I start, including if I start a game, save, quit and load it back up again. I haven't tried making much progress in the game to see if there are any other problems/causes, however I can move around and talk to the NPC's.
Also did you install outside Program Files?
No, what are the outside Program Files?

Install location. Dont install it to c:\program files... etc. Instead install to c:\mm6 for example.

When you install click Options and you should be given the choice.
Ahh, I see. Have just reinstalled it like that, but no change.
Hi,

Looks like I've found a fix, I was originally having a different issue with the game crashing on startup, and I managed to fix it by following a previous forum post about the issue and dowloading a file. This allowed everything to run, with the exception of the inventory crashing problem.

I thought originally that the problems were unrelated, but then figured perhaps they weren't. I uninstalled everything, and re-installed as you suggested above, and now it seems to work. Figner crossed it stays this way.

Thanks for your help ZFR!

Cheers.
