Hi Everyone!

I just finished MM6 and after playing 7 and 8 a lot I thought I tried some of the older ones again. So I started with Worlds of Xeen (4-5) and I actually encountered my first problem way early in the game. I tried googling it and searching here but I didn't find anything really of use.

Basically, my game freezes the moment I leave the first shop you encounter. The sound plays on and I don't really encounter any other problems but this makes it basically unplayable for me.

Any kind soul that can help me? :) Cheers!

Which version of World of Xeen are you playing? We have two: the floppy version and the CD-ROM version.

What version of Windows are you playing it on?

Do you have UAC(User Account Control) turned off?
Hi and thanks for the quick answer. I'm playing the version from the M&M6 limited edition that I bought here at GoG. I forgot to mention that I'm playing it on Windows 7 64bit. Any other game from the package seems to be in correct working condtion.

I'm not sure on UAC, Where might I find this?

I just checked and it also happens whenever I leave the tavern, or any 'shop' of that matter.

We offer two versions of M&M 4-5 WoX in our M&M 6 Limited Edition, hence the reason I asked which version you are having issues with :D Have you tried the full speech version and vice versa?

UAC we can forget about for now since that mostly causes problems during installation and my suggesting turning it off was a derp moment on my part. Mea culpa.

How are you running the game? Are you running it from the Start menu or are you running the executable that the GOG shortcut refers to? Are you running it as Administrator?

Ah I see :) Well I'm running the full speech version as far as I'm concerned. At least some of the characters are voiced so. How can I start the other version since I don't really see it. I'm launching it now from the game directory itself. Yes I tried running it as an administrator!

Ah see here! I found the two different version in the start menu, and hurrah running the ACTUAL full speech version has made my problem disappear! Thank you very much!

edit: Well, I was trying to solve this but you did it before I finished typing :D.

edit #2: You're welcome :D

Cheers :D
For future reference, I think what JudasIscariot was getting at is that for games 1-5, which use DOSBox, you should NOT run from the directory itself but instead use either the start menu or the desktop shortcut. Those shortcuts do more than just run a file, they initiate DOSBox and configure all the settings before launching the game. So it's not the same as just launching from the directory.

At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works!

Anyway, I'm glad you got Xeen running, it's a great game!

Good advice there! Did not know that there would be any differences between them, since it seems it runs DOSBox fine from the directory as well. Anyway, thanks a lot! Definitely keeping that in mind!
This is a strange bug. I encountered way back on my mac when the game was new, I think I had to disable sound fx every time I went to a shop or similiar and then enable it again. I ran into the same bug playing the non-speech version from GOG. Everything works fine playing the speech version.
I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the irq setting of the game and dosbox. The config file that is loaded through the shortcut sets it to a different value than the default one but that should be resolved on the new updated version which uses an irq value of 7 which is the default.

However there is one problem: Swords of Xeen still uses 5 in its config but with the update it uses 7 in the config file and will freeze even when launched through the shortcut at some points by default.
