HI all,

Quick questions for this amazing game:

-Where is the save game located? I have 2 Pcs and I want to continue my game from different Pcs, but too many files, which is the good one?

-I found some enemies which I cant do any damage at all with my standard weapons, such as Troll Hill and similar, I believe magical weapons can do some damage, but I'm still level 4, do +1 weapons count?

-I understand the game is open world and there is no any particular order to finish it, but I would appreciate a tip about the correct order, for example: Sorphigal, Sorhpigal dungeon, then castle blackrock, then dusk, etc.....something like it. Because I have no idea where to go or what to do, so at this moment I just grab the scroll from sorphigal and delivered to Erliqium, but thats about it, the rest im Farming monster near the fountains.

-Any chance to light the totally dark areas? because some dark areas I use light spell and torch, but still they remain totally dark....

-What does SURRENDER do? Because I try it just for fun, but it never work, I always get the msg: " XXXX dont take prisoners"

-I started the game with default party since I started it just for fun, but now I am totally hook to the game, so now I dont want to start over again, is default party that bad? or the game is beatable with it?

Thanks!
Cool, someone else is still playing Might and Magic I.

At level 4, you better shouldn't fight with Hill Trolls. Most +1 and +2 weapons should do damage to them, but your chance to hit them at that level are not very high (they get higher when you cast the Bless spell at the beginning of a combat)

Understandable, but the game is mostly about exploring, so it's hard to give a certain order of things you should do. I would recommend to start with Sorpigal and Sorpigal dungeon, then go to Erliquin and after that do the first three quest for Lord Hacker (castle Blackridge south). After that you should be at least at level 5 which makes surviving much easier, because you learnt your first mighty attack spells. Most outside areas should be more or less safe to visit after that.

Afaik the areas in which magic doesn't work can't be lightened

Monsters don't take prisoners of course. But if you have trouble with guards in cities, you can surrender and gets send to prison for some years.

I would say that the game is beatable with more or less every party (but it's a good idea to have one of each class). I made some dubious decisions myself when I created my party and so things were a lttle rough at first, but I'm sure it's possible to win even if your stats are not the best.
Some monsters can only be hit by either male or female characters. Not sure if that includes Hill Trolls, though.

The default party is fine. It's a balanced party (except only one female), they have good stats and unlike generated characters they start with basic equipment.

The savegame file is located in the same folder where the game is installed, and it's called ROSTER.DTA (or maybe ROSTER.DAT... one of those is MM1 and one is MM2, I forget which). Just copy that file over and it's all you need. I did this a lot when switching between my desktop and laptop.

As PaterAlf said, heading to Erliquin once you're done with Soprigal and the Sorpigal dungeon is a good idea... if you search the Sorpigal dungeon thoroughly you should find a quest that sends you to Erliquin anyway. After that, I'd just try exploring, and if areas are too tough, try going somewhere else. It does seem odd at first to not have any direction, but once you start trying things out and mapping areas you'll get into it and have a lot of fun. Even if you die, you won't lose your hand-drawn map, so you won't feel that it's a waste.

I can also confirm that any weapon with a "+" on it is magical and will be able to damage enemies that are immune to non-magical damage. But gaining levels is far more important than getting better equipment in this game.
There is some preferred order of exploration - the wilderness becomes increasingly dangerous the further from Sorpigal you go, so explore outwards from Sorpigal. Many of the caverns/dungeons are linked by portals which gives another rough order of difficulty. The first cavern under Sorpigal definitely has a portal to somewhere else which if not the second easiest cavern in the game would have to be close. There is also an order of difficulty to the towns, but I can't remember where this comes from, although Sorpigal is town number 1, I think town number 2 is actually one of the more dangerous. The price of food would be an indication of the order of difficulty.

The starting party is quite strong in my opinion, and it would be hard to do better and easy to do worse. Perhaps ditching the robber - if you don't mind doors and chests constantly blowing up in your face, and swap the knight for a paladin or archer- hybrids are good enough fighters and their spellcasting, and the archers attack anywhere ability can be quite useful.

There is a stronger light spell which gives you 20 light factors and can be stacked, each move in darkness costs you one light factor, and the light lasts until you run out. Unless the game has other tricks up its sleeve to get rid of this spell in a single shot, I only ever tried it a couple times and usually explored dark squares by blundering around until I bumped into a wall.

I would avoid using the cavern portals... if you've only explored the Sorpigal cavern, the next one is going to be too hard. Intsead, head outside and explore the overworld. You'll eventually find the other caverns anyway. Same with towns... if you can travel there without too much trouble, it should be OK to enter. Generally, teleporting places will often get you there before you're ready, so try getting around on your own as much as possible.
I believe that before you can meet the lords and get their quests, you need to get the Merchant's Pass from a wagon in the map area north of Sorpigal. Lord Hacker's first few quests are easy and give good experience, and the early quests of the other Lords give you some goals to aim for, so I would say that after you're comfortable with your exploration of Sorpigal and its cavern, you should head north and see if you can find the pass. Exploring along the roads until you've found Portsmith, Algary, and Erliquin is a decent idea, too - even if you aren't ready to do any real fighting there, they're towns, which means they have inns you can save at.

Once you start questing, be warned that MM1 will only let you accept one quest at a time. If you want to get a new quest without completing your current one, you'll have to cast the remove quest spell.

The price of food is not really an indication. It's most expensive in Dusk (200 gold/each), but that's only because it's located in a place that you can only reach if you have enough food with you. The town itself is rather harmless (even if the dungeon is tough). Portsmith on the other side is quite dangerous, but the food is cheap there.
Another question: What does a skill potion do? Tried it and couldn't see any effect. Same question for garlic, wolfsbane, belladonna and jade amulet.

I thought Skill Potions had the same affect as the Hero spell, in which case you should have seen an effect. Maybe it's like a Bless spell instead?
Garlic, wolfsbane, belladonnas are minor quest items. Hold on to at least one each of them.
Skill potion gives you +5 temporary levels. Extremely useful for some fights.

I've already done these quests, so I think I don't have to carry them around any longer. Thought they might have some other use as well (like mixing potions).

Thank you! Must have been blind (or dead-tired) that I didn't see the effect yesterday.
Well, many thanks to all of you for your replies. :D

I'm doing much better now, I have my party at lvl 7 and some members at 6. problem is that to reach next level I need an incredible amount of EXP which I find problems getting. why?
Well because the fights I can win I only get 200-300 exp, some times 400, but that's all. And the ones I think I can get better EXP, I really cant win. So where to go?
I also have done many quest, but for example:
-The quest to kill Medusa I cant, since Monster in that dungeon convert all my party in stone and is nothing i can do with this level.
-The quest of the succubus at Portsmith, I cant do neither, since I done have teleport or etherialization yet.
-The quest of getting to the shrine in Dusk, I also get beated pretty hard with those traps+monster, Yes i can jump some, but still, some you have to do 100% since are either in front of doors or in a corner which you cant jump.
-The quest of the Gold Key is the only one i think i can do, but i dont want to go ahead the main storyline so fast.
-The quest of climbing the tress is impossible since fights are very hard and the tress always nerf you somehow.

I think I have good equipment, the KN with great hammer +1 and the archer with great bow +1 and so. Problem is I still miss a lot of hits.
OH I also did the quest to gain+2 INT in each char, is very funny, a SUDOKU!!!

By the way, what exactly does donate at temple? because I cant see any attribute increase?

I suggest you just explore the overland areas. If any area is too tough, retreat and try another area.

Getting blessed from donating at temples usually takes some tries, but you'll notice it when it happens.

There are many other ways to find lots of EXP. The statues in Sorpigal give hints to some of these, although many will be tough for a level 7 party. I also recommend exploring more of the overland areas. Basically, if the stuff you're trying is too hard, go somewhere else that you've never been before. You'll find something to do.
