I try to solve the first two dungeons in the game, but it seems to be impossible. The monsters are extremely overpowered. Is there a way to beat those dungeons?
Travel to Castle Ironfist and buy bows. Return and kill the goblins from a distance.
But explore the area around Sorpigal first to and empty those chests.

Could you write how you approach a battle?

Meanwhile, some hints. Don't bother with Flame Arrow or Magic Arrow, they are worthless. Get Flame Bolt, Sparks, and Deadly Swarm (or Harm for a Cleric). They are good early spells. Use the Horseshoes on one Wizard to give a bigger kick to his/her spells. Clear out the outdoor areas as they are not bad. When you get enough points to train for 9 to 12 skill points, go to the trainer and get Level 4 Skill for your Fire Bolt (or whatever spell you decide is your go to for difficult situations.) And get Expert status ASAP

Sparks is useful for groups (aim your players "up" around bats. The sparks act like artillery and wipe out a good many of them.) Know how to create the "Cure Poison" potion.

Do you use the Wells? Especially the +10 strength well for fights?

Finally. Don't hesitate to RUN when things get bad.

Always use pause when fighting.

Get bows, when you see enemies approaching press pause and start shooting. When paused your arrows hit a lot more.
Once they are in close range fight melee and if you notice they are crushing you unpause and run like hell. Pause again when you got some distance and repeat the first steps.
You can always run away. There is no shame in not dying :)
backing away as you fight can help too then stopping when your group is all ready to attack then spam the attacks and repeat

if you have bows you don't even have to stop for attacking

note this is kinda useless fighting ranged attackers

you can sometimes keep the number of enemies you are dealing with down if you explore new areas slowly
and back off once you aggro one or a few enemies at a time out of any groups

Bad advice. Some enemies/groups are better fought in real time. For example, the mages near New Sorpigal, just past the canyon. They will blow you to kingdom come at low levels if you just stand there (which is required by pause). You can use bows to take them out early if you fight in real time. Just keep moving and use cover.

I've never had trouble with them in Pause. I use Wizard eye to light them up. The nearest ones then come to me. I don't rush the group. I have also fought them in real time and your way works also.
I wouldn't advice to do as many advice, I wouldn't advice to go straight to Castle Ironfist and teach everyone bows.

The reasons are simple: you will be missing a lot. You will have to invest a lot of skill points into Bow, and you will still miss a lot. Bow is a skill which will quickly become outdated by other skills/spells and even by plain attack, so investing into it is a poor choice.

Another reason: you will start playing game in wrong way and it will take time to "fix" your approach. Game teaches you to use Pause (and switch to real-time when needed), to use buffs (from wells, churches, spells), teaches you to not rush, teaches you to explore your spells and stats. All those goblins are easily killable in close combat as Lv.1 party with initial gear/spells, if you DON"T rush into them and let them come 3-4 at a time.

You will need to learn to not rush. There are many places where rushing will outright kill you (Castle Darkmoor comes to mind).

Remember:
- You have healing spells.
- You have well with +10 Mgt.
- You have church which can bless you with enough donations (or you can bless yourselves by spell).
- You have nuking spells.
- You can lure few monsters at a time.
- Running away from monsters is a viable tactical approach.
- Goblinwatch is much easier dungeon than Abandoned Temple - clear it first and you will gain some gold, gear and levels.

Do you move around a lot to get them to move past the lake? The ones in the canyon itself aren't too bad, for the most part. I'm talking about the huge group on the other side of that pond, at the far end of the canyon.

Of course, I've always reached them by going through the canyon, and you don't get a clean shot at the crowd until most of them become active.

Move around a lot? Exactly. I first draw them toward the water by going around by the ship. Then go to the Canyon. Moving from one side to the other, they line up in a row. My parties are always heavy into magic so my only bowman is a Knight. I tend to agree with what was said about bows. They tend to get old quickly so I don't get an archer. By Level 15, I only use bows in easy situations to save the Blue Goo.

"Might and Magic 6" is one of this games that seems impossible to beat and hardcore when you start it. Everybody went through that, so don't get discouraged. I've recently started new game (after finishing it for the first time), so I have fresh memory. I can give you few tips.

1) First clear New Sorpigal surroundings from goblins and mages. It will give you XP, gear (from boxes) and gold.

2) You may wan't to take caravan to Castle Ironfist to return letter to the castle. It will give you gold and lots of XP. You can also learn to use bow and armors better than leather. Buy bows when you are at it.

3) The ship in nw Sorpigal will take you to the Mist. You can learn spells like Fireball there - if you have the money.

4) Use potions. Simple energy potion will give you +10 to all stats, Protection can give you +10 armor etc. White potions can give you statuses like "Blessed" or "Stone Skin" for few hours.

5) Use fountains.

6) Try to aggro as little monsters as you can. If there is entrance to the room full of monsters - fight in entrance. You may also back up - some monsters will go after you, others won't.

7) When you are spent (hp and mp-wise) return to healing fountains/temple/inn for little recovery.

8) Leveling up Fire and Air magic schools first will help you with killing efficiently large groups of enemies.

Have fun!
the hit and run technique works quite well and gets you through the first 2 dungeons even though the poisons and what not are quite annoying. you can also just do a couple of easy quests that dont require fighting anything to gain levels and it will become a walk in the park.

It's good to have some simple potions at hand to prepare cure sickness (green) and antivenom (purple) potions. It's less annoying than returning to the temple and spells removing this afflictions are randomly available, use a lot of mana (for starting party) and cost quite a bit.

It might not be obvious, but whatever you kill in there will stay dead, i.e. it doesn't reset right away, it usually takes several months or a year of game time before it does. So, go in a kill a couple of creatures, then leave. Heal and recover then go back inside and do it again. No need to finish any area, building, or cave in one go.

On the other hand, the wounded creatures might not still be wounded when returning. They might be for a while, I'm not recalling at the moment. Anyway, I definitely wouldn't expect them to stay wounded overnight, though. So, just be grateful the dead stay dead and their bodies will still be there when you get back if you didn't pick them up before leaving.

In general, just play around and discover these things. It is a game after all. It's not school, you don't have to get it right, and nothing has to be done all at once. Discover. A lot of it is do as you feel in whatever order you like. It helps to take notes for the quests because the Quests book that auto-tracks the quests in the game doesn't store all the details of the conversations giving you the quests. So take notes and then compare with what it does auto-record and see the difference.

If you fight in real time, change the always run to walk. If you're running it takes longer to recover from an action like taking a potion, attacking, or casting a spell.

Anything left alive in the dungeon when you leave will be at full health when you return. Anything dead will stay dead.

Use the fountains but on harder areas they can be dangerous. Some are traps and others will kill you but increase a stat. So you will need spells to heal your party after drinking from the fountains that increase your party member's stat.
