I've been playing the first Might and Magic for awhile now, and it is fun, but none of the monsters drop gold. I just get exp. Each of my characters has over 500 experience points and we've rested 4 times.

At this rate, we'll starve to death eventually because we aren't getting any gold to buy more food with.

Do monsters not drop gold in the first Might and Magic? I tried making extra characters and selling their clubs at the smith, but the sale price is 0 T_T
You have to search after each fight (just press 'S'). Many monsters will drop leather bags and chests when defeated and by opening them you get gold and better equipment.

As PaterAlf said, you must search (with the "S" key) after each battle to get your loot. Sometimes the chests you find are trapped, so make sure to have your robber open them. If you're hurt, you can rest first, but if you move off the square you'll lose the treasure.

Having said that, not all enemies will drop gold. Most animals do not, for example.

Also, the pre-made characters have better equipment. Try taking a few of them with you, taking their stuff, and then either selling it or using it yourself.
Wow dude I feel totally stupid right now.

I wonder how much gold I've passed up on. Thanks very much for the help!
As noted above - and may I add - Read the Manual

Be nice! We should welcome new players to Might and Magic!

Having said that, the manual really does have a lot of useful info in it, especially regarding the very outdated interface.
