Yay the epic ending. Friggin long game. Finished 99% the hardcore way - writing maps, clues, checking items by experiment, not looking in the clue book at all. I used the clue book and a guide near the end, during the hard-as-hell Astral Plane area, and to finish the checker puzzle, I never tried searching in the painted rooms, should have been wiser after i missed the gold key near the doggy the first time, but oh well.

Anyway, even with "cheating" a bit in the end that's quite an accomplishement, especially in 2013, don't you think? My score 427700. What are yours? :D

So I heard you can transfer chars into MM2... is it good idea? cause I'm bored with these guys :P

I think so. Imported characters who finished MM1 are reduced in level for MM2 (I think they go down to level 7) and they lose all equipment. Also any stats that are higher than a certain value (20, I think?) are reduced back to that value. So there's still a lot of leveling to do. Plus, in MM2, you can hire hirelings, adding two extra characters to the party, which lets you try out the new character classes.

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with starting over with a new party. I think the early game will be pretty tough though.
sweet score man! Awesome job, congrats!
The early game in MM2 is pretty much the same as MM1. Port your characters if you want, but it is certainly not necessary and frankly doesn't necessarily help you that much. If you are bored with them by now, by all means make new ones. Besides, it doesn't take that long to level up new characters.
Thanks! :)

aww man, the quality of the scan of MM2 map is horrible, can't make out some location names, and it was quite important in MM1... is there a better scan in the world of internets somewhere?

as to the characters i think i roll a new party. The hardcore begginnings in MM1 were actually the part of the game i remember most fond :P idk, somehow in rpgs I love this part when you start as a peasant dying from a mosquito bite and slowly gathering experience and becoming more powerful. After you get overpowered on higher levels sweeping the battlefield with one meteor strike it becomes a tad boring. Same with newer MMs at later levels i just push and hold "a" for attack and watch enemies fall, fun for a bit, but then gah. Ofc it's just a level 7, but nah, I want something new :)

Oh and funny thing with MM1 end part, for some strange reason, I thought you never arrive in the same place in Astral Plane after casting a spell - i thought you have to map a small bit of your surroundings for as long as you can survive and find hope to find a portal back before this eradicating monsters kill you and after a few tries try to put the pieces of the map together comparing what you explored each time lol. That would have been hardcore! Imagine my relief when I suddenly realized I'm always ported to the same fixed spot on the bottom of the map. Suddenly things become waaaay easier. On the other hand adrenaline was pumping during my misconception and that was fun hehe.
Congrats man. I just finished it 2 years ago myself, so I know the feeling :) Amazing game. I remember how happy I was the first time I finally beat those pesky sprites in Sorpigal.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter much if you import chars or create new ones. I heard it might be slightly more difficult to import in fact, since you start with no equipment, but monsters are scaled up to your level 7.

I created new ones because like you I liked the hardcore beginnings :) and I wanted to try out the new classes (you can use hirelings too though).
Yeah, i'm still amazed how fun it is with all it's clunkiness. I mean, I'm a retro-weirdo, so i'm biased, but i see so many ppl (relatively speaking) in the Internet that have same feelings as long as they like making notes and mapping.

And yeah, gonna try Ninja and Barbarian - Crag Hack alpha!

and damn those sprites in Sorpigal, after I was uber leveled and OP, i always retreated from encounters in sorpigal to save time and not be bored, but the sprites I always attack as a revenge! :D

Haha, me too. I'm happy to find people who like those retro games as much as I do.

Here I dug out my old thread when I finished it:

Enjoy MM2. Other than auto-maps, it's just as hardcore. From MM3 onwards, you get to save anytime, so they become just "normal" RPGs. Mind you, they are great; I think MM3 is the best of the lot 1-5. It's only that you no longer get those situations when you just cleared a dungeon and your adrenaline is pumping like crazy with you wondering whether you'll make it back to the inn without being ambushed or should you rest and risk being woken up.

Congratulations! That's 2729 more than the CRPG Addict's score.
I finished it myself a couple of years ago, but I cheated slightly by using a DosBox version with Save States function and by looking up items stats in the clue book.

So I heard you can transfer chars into MM2... is it good idea? cause I'm bored with these guys :P
The beginning of MM2 is brutal, so I would have transfered characters. If so, make sure they head straight for the weaponsmith. Even with imported lvl 7 characters I still had to reload at least once in the first city of MM2.

As for a better map for MM2, try this: http://lhalter.free.fr/Map.jpg
I had my first look around the town, but I somehow don't feel it's as brutal as you say :P I remember MM1 beginning being more hardcore, but then again, maybe i'm just used to the mechanics of this game already.

Or maybe you set your difficulty high? I'm playing on average.

And also OMG the graphics! The enemies have actual ANIMATIONS!! 0.0 Awesome, next gen!

And yep, i already found that map, thanks :)

EDIT: I sent "feedback" to GoG so that they include the better map, received a response so maybe :) probably only a handful ppl care but well, doing good is always welcome regardless of the numbers :)
