I know Perception helps you find things in Skull piles or Trash Heaps, but how about corpses?

Perception helps you avoid traps and the dodging graphic is kinda cool,,,Luck helps avoid trap damage, I think. Logically, Luck or party luck, could help in finding treasure. But I never been able to verify it.

Anyway, should I beef up Luck for my Thief or Perceptionist?
Thanks!

This applies to MM6, 7, and 8:
I believe that Perception does NOT actually help you find things in Skull piles or Trash Heaps, it helps you avoid being poisoned or diseased when you rummage through them while looking for loot. A character without it can still find stuff, but the character will be adversely affected.

If your perception is high enough, then certain (hidden) doors, levers, and other objects will flash to make them easier to spot. It also gives you a chance of dodging a trap on a chest if your disarm attempt fails, and (as above) it lets you avoid being poisoned/diseased when looking through trash heaps.

Looting corpses is just random. Neither Perception nor Luck affect what you find. Chests have random loot tables, and some chests always have specific objects. Either way, the treasure is generally determined when you enter the map where the treasure chest is located.

I'm not entirely sure what Luck does affect. I know it plays into the damage reduction provided by your resistances, and it might help lower trap damage(?), but I seem to recall that it is a fairly limited stat in this game.

As for your Thief: Having higher Luck is a good thing, and having higher Perception can be useful, but whether they are worth the cost will depend on a lot of factors. Chief among them is which game you are playing (presumably MM7, since there are no Thieves in 6 or 8?), and the second biggest factor is the composition of your party.
I think Perception helps when you search a camp fire. It makes it a almost 100% chance to find a ring along with food.
Actually in MM6 I think that the piles of skulls in the Abandoned Temple (in New Sorpigal) give you loot only if you have level 4 perception.

I remember testing this myself and finding this result too.

The Skull Piles in the Were Wolf den is the same way.

And I believe Perception allows you to find additional items lying around.
I stand corrected for MM6.

During the game, as perception improves, you begin see additional items on the ground.
Since I never get Perception Grand Masters I am not sure how this works at the upper levels,
But I always assumed I was seeing useful flowers all of a sudden showing up on the walkways of Hammondale because of improved Perception.
Thanks guys!

I remember finding extra gold with my High Perception Archer in MM7, but I thought that was a fluke....Yeah, so maybe...
Now, I have a Master 10 perception, which is...40%? On my thief and haven't been seeing much 'surprise" treasure..

Traps almost never blow up anymore, but good to know!
Perception does give an increase for finding items from corpses, it's noticeable with high perception on wussiebeast corpses. Going through Goblinwatch after the monsters have respawned (and my first character had higher perception skill) for the fun of the slaughter and some easy money I got a lot more rings from the weak monster corpses. I also noticed that I wouldn't get anything from any of them without at least one level in perception.

I've had similar, though not as noticeable, results in 7 and haven't really played eight so while I would assume it works the same way I can't say from experience.
In MM6 which I'm currently playing, I like to think Luck stat gives a chance to resist monsters' special effects, e.g to not be paralyzed every time by gargoyles, turned to stone by medusas, etc.
