Hello, I recently got the M&M 6 pack, and I should finish DLing any moment now...
I am into stories mainly, and I know that the M&M have a rich story to offer (Already finished Baldur's Gate & Icewind dale Sagas) and I'd like to know if since the 1st game is rather old and I ain't sure how much playable is it in todays standards, if I will start playing from M&M 2 or 3, will it hurt the story? Will I miss things? or mainly it's every game is a standalone?

Well, each game will stand on its own, but they do have a shared universe and some of the story is continuous, MM1 is definitely not too old to be enjoyable, it just takes a little more effort to play it due to the lack of features like an automap.
I thought I would add that MM1 does not have the most involved story... it's more about exploration. You will eventually discover things that shed light on the main plot, but at the beginning there is no real main goal yet.

I would say, just try the games out yourself. Try MM1, and if it's too oldschool or doesn't have enough story for you, then maybe try MM3 or MM4 instead, as those were a pretty big change from the first two games. If those still aren't doing it for you, go ahead and try MM6, which saw another big change in design.
i have a problem with M&M1, after I create a char I get the message (ingame) to press enter and then I only hear a beeping sound 3 times and I can't do anything, I can only press enter again and hear the same beeping again. The same happened when I used the pre-made party and tried to sign in at an inn....

Any suggestions?

The only prompt to hit enter should be immediately before you get to the choice to make characters(C), view them(V) or choose an inn(1-5)
It's weird; I am trying to create a character and I get stuck at the "Are you ready? Press Enter!" Screen...I really like to try and play this game...So any help will be most appreciated

Edit: I was able to solve the problem, I am using windows 7 ultimate, and apparently I needed to change the compatibility mode to windows xp SP 3 and and also to use administrator privileges

Oh, also, if you're playing Might and Magic 1, you probably want to upgrade to the newest version of DOSBox and apply the fan patch (so that text is actually possible to read:instructions

I read in the ingame manual that there is a way to draw a map to the game, I am not sure that I figured out how to exactly draw a map...Is there a way to get a predrawn map?

The only way to draw a map is by drawing it by hand, what the manual is referring to is the location spell, which will give you your facing and location on a 16x16 grid (numbered 0-15) there are plenty of predrawn maps online (and in the cluebook) but they take a lot of the exploration out of the game.
on a personal note; Do you still play the game with your own drawn map?

Yes, I use my own hand drawn maps and notes.

Yes, I use hand-drawn maps too... it helps a lot because I can take notes on the maps so I know of interesting locations.

It's not too hard to draw maps once you realize that every area is a 16x16 grid, with squares numbered 0-15, and the location spell will tell you which square you are in and which direction you are facing. Graph paper works perfectly.

(I guess Orryyrro already explained the grid... but it's important to realize how it works)
Thanks a lot, you guys are really helpful... I did try to play again earlier and found all these status around the first town, I guess I should write down all these clues somewhere lol, at the end I'll find myself with a notebook filled with info about M&M1

Another question, how come when I create a new character I get to start with 0 gold and a club? but when I use pre-made characters I am starting with 200gold and equipment?

Also another question, Where can I see the list of casters spells? because as you guys know the spells are numbers in the game and I don't know which spell does what

The premade just have better starting gear, that's it.

There should be a manual in the game folder, if not it is available to download as a free extra on your account page, it includes a spell list at the end.
Thanks, found it already, and was able to map most of the town of Sorpigal on my own... Was really fun and dangerous...Almost got killed few times.. Now my question is; Inside the town's jail on the left cell there's a secret door that leads to a pathway shrouded in darkness... Usually when my cleric cast a light spell the entire room (like in the underground) is lit for the rest of the journey with a refresh every once in awhile, but at that specific place when I cast the light spell, the square is lit, but when I move to a different square then it's all dark again. My cleric has only 7SP so it's kinda problematic to find my way there...

Another question, is there a way to know the difference between the different weapons? like dmg and such?
