If I recall correctly, back in PS2 days with Son's of Liberty you could press L1+L2+Select+Start button combination, hold it down for a couple of seconds and the game would reset back to main menu.

How do you do that in the GOG release?

Were you able to figure this out? I'm not sure why they wouldn't have the ability to quit and return to the main menu from the pause screen.
