These games have always been a bitch to get working on modern systems. How are the gog versions? Does everything work like it should?

Yes but they're also the unpatched PC versions which were...not the greatest ports but thanks to them being on GOG and the fan patches to fix them already out, there's a way to basically get them running like dreams.
