There aren't many videos about this release at the time of writing (and indeed even the GOG.com store page doesn't have video of the game). The ones I've seen seem to suggest all the sound and music is played through a reverb sound effect which is very weird and anachronistic for basically an MSX PSG sound chip. It's not necessarily bad but it should definitely be a configuration option and that's what's unclear from the videos. Can the reverb be turned off?

No way to turn it off that I can see. It is slightly odd.

The reverb is already baked into the sound files so that effect can't be turned off, you can go into the GOG.com\Metal Gear\Sound\ folder and play them directly and they have the reverb baked in.

I thought so too but the sound files didn't sound near as echoey in foobar.

I'm going to replace the files and see if the new ones sound funny.

I tested the music and I can say with 99% certainty that the reverb is not baked in.

Interesting.... I could be wrong then....I just cherry picked a few of the sound effects yesterday, didn't try music, and can hear that echoey effect OP is talking about - like punch1, item use ,item get, and smoke alarm . Either way I don't think the option will come about as it wasn't an option in the PS2/HD collection of MGS3 bonus content this version of the MSX MG seems to be pulled from.
Bummer. It's not conclusive but the work to mod it out is either hard (patching the game) or tedious (swapping the audio files) and it doesn't seem worth it. Thanks for confirming that a simple option to disable the effect doesn't exist, everybody.
