Just bought Metal Gear, and when I launch it, everything is black except for the upper left corner of my screen, which shows that portion of the game.

Just to clarify, the whole game isn't stuck in the corner, the game is running full screen, but only that corner is visible

Had the same issue, and found this solution that fixed this for me: https://www.gog.com/forum/metal_gear_series/metal_gear_screen_is_almost_completely_cut_off

TLDR: Run at 640x480 resolution
