Flex_Luger: Any chance of getting the resolution fixed in Metal Gear Solid to get rid of that black bar on the bottom?
I think there is a fan patch that was posted on the mgs forums that fixes that I think, I'm not bothered by it but I can see how some are.

I remember that black bar being there even back when I used to play my old cd version of this game on windows vista and 7

DreamedArtist: EVERY single issue I came across in the game without any patches using the 1.0 Version from GOG.

POST ANY BUGS YOU COME ACROSS, GOG TEAM IS MONITORING POSTS.

Hardware used for this test.

Windows 10
4k monitor
2080ti
9900ks
32gb ram
Creative SoundBlaster AE9

All settings of the game are maxed out same with Nvidia Driver panel with sharpening on default.
Vsync on. No issues with any resolution. if you go past 4:3 you will experience stretching and its ugly
Every resolution runs perfect without issues for the game.

ALL ISSUES AND GLITCHES IN THE GAME

0.No Subtitles on cutscenes.

1. Water in intro area has no effect for movement, you run as though not in water.

2. Game will repeat/crash at cells when you meet decoy octopus. Crash occurs when you skip his scenes and will crash at snake saying 'Ok lets get you out of here. Not skipping these scenes will prevent this

3. if you don't pick up SOCOM Pistol in truck, cutscene flashing occurs when you are at gunpoint by Meryl in soldier uniform after octopus's death.

4.Odd cut effects on sky textures throughout the game from the tank battle to helicopter battle.

5.Stealth effects are a bit glitched, it's not that bad but you can noticed from time to time the stealth mode effect breaking in cutscenes.

6.Some cutscenes with ninja have some odd lag to them but not major game breaking. Fixable with software option in options menu. Resolution takes a hit.

7. Staircase chase to rooftop, gun spazzes out and aims up when shooting at enemies going up stairs or down, Sound of shooting and all other sounds get lower in volume, sounds like in game audio drops to 50 or 40 when this even happens, when you reach top to climb ladder to get to roof the sounds go back to normal.

8. Audio crackling in Vulcan raven freezer room scene when you are about to fight him, when he says "lets see if those words have iron in them' has a short audio crackle.

9.Audio Crackling at random points in cutscene when you reach command room in REXES LAIR, liquid and ocelot are talking and shoot the card from your hand. that whole entire cutscene has some random audio crackling.

10.Ninja VS Rex Scenes, Ninja wall smash half blood missing on wall. Ninja crush scene, half blood missing on floor before crushed to death.

11. Car chase fight. Liquids face is glitched and missing around 50% of his face through whole car chase.

12. Stealth in cutscenes are a bit choppy and as well in gameplay when used.

METAL GEAR SOLID VR MISSIONS GAME

When playing the ninja, stealth makes the game a bit choppy in the framerate department.
Here to add two controller related issue:

I. On controller, if you map L2 as "Inventory Item" and R2 as "Inventory Weapons", they work exactly opposite. Doesn't happen with keyboard, so dunno what the case is here.

II. When turning off Alternate Round by holding both Inventory weapon and Inventory Weapon keys, and pressing action button, it only seems to function on Keyboard, no luck for controller.

//Once again thank you DreamedArtist for helping me with the Alternate Round issue.

From the screens I've seen of the widescreen fix it seems that works if you want to go the 16:9 route but I'm looking for the original 4:3 aspect ratio.
Though we are still going through reported issues, I can give you a small update what cannot be considered a bug, but rather PSX - PC port difference.

No Subtitles on cutscenes.
Subtitles during normal cutscenes work fine (when turned on in options). Captions in FMV footage was never present in PC version and are not rendered at all by the game. This cannot be fixed.

Water in intro area has no effect for movement
That was a PSX-only feature, same as motion blur and several other filters.

Black bar at the bottom
This is not a bug. Original PSX version run at 320x224. PC port has been made to run at 640x448 to maintain original aspect ratio. Forcibly removing it would mean stretching the game vertically (~7%) and as of now we decided against that.

We cannot reproduce Decoy Octopus crash (or skipping cutscenes crash), but we're still trying ;)
Thanks for your patience (and bug reports). I'll pass more info once I have it.
Thanks for the updates! About the Decoy Octopus crash, upon seeing a speedrun of the game on PC, the speedrunners mentioned that the crash may happen if you skip through cutscenes too fast (by holding the skip button). The game simply can't keep up, so it crashes.

My guess is that this is why it's more likely to crash when there's a series of cutscenes, like in Decoy Octopus's case.

Also, this isn't mentioned enough, but apart from the OST's sound quality being inferior, the PC port has several errors when it comes to looping music correctly. I am actually going to post a link of the AGDQ speedrun, where the speedrunners mention and actually go in depth on those 2 issues I mentioned in this post, with timestamps:

https://youtu.be/YUARpXbjqug?t=1724 - cutscenes crashing analysis.

https://youtu.be/YUARpXbjqug?t=2440 - sound effects errors, soundtrack quality, and soundtrack errors on the PC port.

I hope this helps!

Why can't there just be a native option along with 4:3 option? It doesn't look this way when you play it on ps1 or ps3 which as you said also has that resolution. I mean at the very very VERY least just center the image if unwilling to make a 4:3 option.

This is not true
I played a lot of MGS pc versione in 2001 and the FMV had subtitles
i'm 100% sure about this

This version seems to be the PC version and FMVs have no subtitles. However, they seem to be rendered in full screen, which isn't the case with the new GOG version.

Man are you joking?
In the video there are no subtitles (in fmv and in game cutscenes) because the option is off

The original Mgs for pc had subtitles in the fmv and in game cutscenes.
Source: i bought MGS only for pc (white and red box) and beat that game 100 times.

If GOG says that there aren't sub on fmv in the old version... well is a lie

I don't want to make controversy about this with GOG staff

Just asking if they will fix the fmv subtitles in the future

For me it's the only issue of this release and the only thing that stop me from buy the title.

I just launched my old ISO backup with patches and I can confirm that there IS NO subtitles at all in cutscenes. I even had to look at some YouTube videos and got the same results.

here look at one I found.

Eh at least the game runs great on modern hardware, that I think we can all be happy about :)

Really hoping they add a stretch to 4:3 option to get rid of that black bar at the bottom. Id honestly settle for the image being centered at this point if the original aspect ratio is a must.

Yeah even with my old copy even back then on windows Vista and 7 I never had the subtitles. never seen that before hmm. well tbh It really doesn't break the game unless someone has loss of hearing. Question, why is the subtitles a major thing your fighting for? very curious that's all.

MGS on pc was one of my favorite game of all time and I think is very strange have missing part of the original pc release in the gog version

The pc version had a lot of issues (like the alert theme instead of the proper boss theme) but the subtitles were in all the cutscenes (fmv and ingame)

And, of course, english is not my first language
