I've played only the original MoH:AA back in the day, but I've stumbled upon this WTF moment in Breakthrough:

The mission in Tunisia where you have to cross the river in a boat, then breach into the fortress, free captured British soldiers and meet with a spy.

When the Germans find you and the spy, you both run through a house, then over some roofs to the locked door, where you have to cover him while he picks the lock. I was covering him and I have run out of ammunition. I jumped behind a crate to draw fire to me, so the spy (Klaus?) can open the door. Then the enemies stopped moving or shooting. The spy was working, but no progress, because I have waited over a minute in the spot . When I thought that the scripts got screwed up, I moved out of the cover anr git killed in a moment.

Do the games suffer from such horrible parts, or I was just unlucky?

Also the ammunition in that mission is fucked up. Maybe one in 4 or 5 soldiers dropped a gun I could pick up, but in other missions every German soldier dropped one. Every. Single. Fucking. Soldier.

And by the way, I was playing on normal difficulty.

MOH was overall a great game, more because introduced "cod" cinematographic style (allied assault was made by "infinity ward" people) but yes, the game is full in my opinion of stupid scripts, and the worst part is it created a "style" that survives until our days.

The addons were always known for being worse than the original game. Spearhead is still okay (and has Gary Oldman as a narrator, yay!) but Breakthrough is indeed pretty bad and suffers from badly scripted missions. Not sure about Spearhead but IIRC Breakthrough was actually developed by a different studio which explains its low quality.

Yeah, I think you have to kill all the soldiers as they come, or the spy won't make progress. I ran out of ammo too the first time I went through this mission. I just ended up replaying the level and being extra conscious about conserving ammo. After that, I had no problem with this section.
I recall Breakthrough being particularly bad. I don't recall much of the story, but it was very guilty of using artificial difficulty to cheaply lengthen play time. Starving you of ammo in later missions was one such lazy design decision along the aforementioned lines.
