Twas a pleasure to see from a comments there, that unwilling\inability to learn even basics of the game, while producing some tons of BS\lame posts, which supposedly should "help" somebody bout that game, is also coming in a direct conjunction to a total lack of taste; thus no sympathy required at all.

3rd aka star map,
but with the ingame nebulae moved to the outer border,
perhaps one even slihtly cut off to indicate there is more,

I voted for Starmap.

Heroes don't quite fit imo, mostly because they are more a side feature of the game rather than its central theme.

While I appreciate the original artwork of the Elerians, I think their inclusion is better for the Table of Contents or something.

Kinda surprised we didn't see any screen shots from any of the various in-game movies among the cover choices (opening sequence, Antarians attack, attack on Antares, conquer Orion, emperor victory gloating, etc)

Well, thats due the design team behind those covers werent that bad. Honestly, pictures of Elerians and Heroes (and starmap to a way lesser extent) were enough disaster on their own to add something like that to injury.

Lemme guess... you designed a cover and it didn't make the cut. Quite frankly, I really don't care. But it will be funny if the cover showing Santa Claus with a migraine wins the vote.

On a positive side: you guessed wrong.
On a negative side: you'd better rework your concept of "really don't caring", as rushing into some ungrounded wild guesses together with expressing some expectations about some distantly related stuff is not really fit the definition.
