EDIT: With a heavy heart I hereby declare I have (almost) totally abandoned this project :-( Too optimistic about my health allowing something like this.

First of all, increase the speed of DOSBox or the game runs too slow. Hold Ctrl and press F12 twice then let go of Ctrl for a start. Adjust cycles=3000 to something more suitable in the config file. I personally use around 4500--5000.

Many times when I have taken a break from the game, I cannot remember the fine details anymore and when trying to search the internet I get a load of search results from the new game, not for the original game, so I decided to start this thread where anyone can post some guides and such.

Reading the manual is not a bad idea but also the readme.txt file in the Moo folder as it lists added keyboard commands among others. A few pulled from memory are:
B - a menu where you can scrap missile bases
C - list of spies caught that turn
F2 and F3 - cycle through your colonies
F8 and F9 - cycle through your colonies with detected (improved or advanced space scanner needed) incoming enemy fleet(s). Does not work if emeny arrives in a single turn.

Some bugs and peculiarities to be aware of:

+ The AI cheats and can spit out ships when it should not be able to.
+ The blue info boxes (finished building....) do not show for more than a few (like 10--20 I think) things so if a lot happens one turn, they will not show for all planets AND also, the game will not adjust production points elsewhere for those planets. Solution: Go through the planets with F2/F3 and check them manually. Annoying I know.
+ Do not save with a nebula visible in the window! It might lead to corrupt save files.
+ Final war is sometimes winnable. Try to quickly reduce the amount of enemy races.
+ You can recognise that combat is taking place in a nebula by the violet tint on the combat map.
+ No shield (no ships nor planets) works in nebulae and it is NOT possible to build planetary shields on a planet that resides in a nebula BUT it is not certain the planet is affected (maybe a clear spot ). Even it should not be possible to build planetary shields, the game says they completed building one if you allocate points to shield/missile bases except NO shield is built BUT still the colony list lists the planet as having a planetary shield...

Anyone may post a guide or help file. Just make sure that you have permission to put anything in here that was not made by you.

I thought I would make a list of useful links in here if I can find some, which I am sure I can with a little help from you. :-)

I scanned the Guardian of Orion, the Space Crystal and the Space Amoeba. There you can see their stats on medium respectively impossible (in next post) difficulty.

*** The guardian of Orion has 5 round missiles but immediately shoots so only 4 showing.

This will be useful if I play MoO again.
As youmention, it's easy to forget the details when not playing the game for several years.

I found the videos by Sulla quite useful: https://www.youtube.com/user/lcsullla
