I've been playing the new MOO and it's fun. But I am curious. Was the Original MOO the source of some of the elements that seem to be common to space games from the 1990's and 2000. I've played SEIV and BOTF with BOTF a lot of "Buggy Fun." The similarities were obvious. Now this MOO has some--- Space Monsters, Anomalies, etc. Was CIV the origins; was MOO; or is there another game that stated it all.
Or maybe there was a Board game.
Thanks
According to my knowledge, The Original Master of Orion invented the 4X genre in 1992. I dont remember any similar games before that with same feeling. But ofcourse there was Civilization before that but they are totally different games.
Looking it up a gentleman named Steve Barcia started it all then. Strange how his name isn't mentioned with the others who started gaming. A lot of people have made a living from the formula.

Thanks
It all was so long ago but I think there was a game that preceded the first MoO that it was compared to.

MoO2 looks like it took a lot of inspiration from the Civ series.

Star Lords was the "Master of Orion prototype"
A boardgame from 1975 called Stellar Conquest started it all. It's pretty much a rough boardgame version of MoO. But from 1975.
Board Game makes sense. I remember someone once told me MicroProse did a lot of Games that were Electronic versions of them.
Thanks again.

There were some 4X computer games before MoO. For example Imperium, on the Amiga 500 and Sternenstaub (Stardust) on the C-64.
So MoO didn`t invent the space 4X computer games genre.
