Hey everyone, I just started playing MoO 2 after reading tons of reviews on 4x space games. I'm currently playing on a Mac Book Pro and can't seem to find any kind of 'editor' or 'saved file source' and I have no clue as how to delete the saved files in my game (this is awesome cause I've used them all @_@!). And now i can barely start a new game. The only thing I can think to do is uninstall and reinstall the game. (losing hall of fame stats?)

This would be a total bummer to have to do all the time, just to be able to save a new game. There has to be a solution starting with clicking on 'master of orion 2' --> 'Show Package Contents'. Inside the package contents is where I would think to find a solution; personally I'm not as great with computers as I would like to be.

Is there anyone out there who can help a good ole gamer?

You should be able to simply save over the old files. I ported MoO2 myself to Boxer on the Macbook before GOG officially Mac versions so I'm not sure where they put the files, it may be in your home directory - like documents. They also might save it inside the game package like my version does (i.e. were you looked with open package contents). The files are called "SAVE#.GAM" where # is the save slot number.

Woah I wish it were that easy for me, I'm new to mac, so I don't even know how to port mine to boxer exactly.

Although I did end up going through gog.com website --> into my account --> then support for MoO 2 --> and there's a read first for mac OS X selection that teaches ya everything you need to know basically.

Other then how to play the game multiplayer... easily. So far I installed MoO 2 by dragging it into my accessories. Heh heh

Although I can save over games It doesn't show that I saved over the old one. Clicking on the saved file brings up the current save, but it's titled like it was the first time I saved a game.

Thank you for the info crazy_dave

My pleasure :)

multiplayer should be playable by following these directions:
http://www.gog.com/forum/master_of_orion_series/moo_ii_online_dosbox_guide/post2

caveat: I haven't done it myself

When you save over a game slot in-game, you should be able to click on that game slot and a little under-score line flashes, you can then delete the old name and re-write the name. Note that this does not change the name of the save file itself when viewing it from the finder (i.e. outside of the game wherever the save file is kept on the hard drive). It only changes the name of the saved game as it appears within the game in the load/save game menu.

If you'd like to learn how to port games yourself, I'd recommend a visit to Rampancy's thread:

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_games_on_mac_os_x_a_how_to/page1

It might be a little overwhelming amount of info first, but mostly because he presents many ways to do it. This is how I started learning how to port.

You'll find many GOG games work on the Mac even without official GOG support - some require very little effort to get working once you get the hang of it. DOSBox games like MoO2 are the easiest as DOSBox is cross-platform and on the Mac you can use Boxer for free (the same solution GOG uses).

Good luck!
