Stuff: I happened across this page and thought others might find it interesting. Tips for getting the game working for online play.

Our version has preconfigure network host - client
menu start -> GOG.com -> Master of orion 1 + 2 -> Master of Orion 2 -> Network
There one player choose Host and others choose client. Host needs to give others his IP and then he choose Multiplayer -> Network -> start new game
Clients input into console CONNECT host.ip.address
Then they also choose multiplayer - connect network and choose Muptiplayer -> Network -> join game

If yuo cant find it there please redowload your copy of MoO 1+2 and reinstall it.
About file with missing ship I am sorry but We have some important stuff to do at company. And I know it is over a month...

Bmarraffa: I am not going through a router i am plugged in right to the wall and my friend cannot connect to me the connection fails. I have read all the help available and still can't figure out why it won't work.. can you please help me? i bought this just so i could play online.

Yes, and to my knowledge the prot should be 213 (UDP). However, I would strongly suggest using some simple tunneling software, like Hamachi, to make this (arguably) more convenient.
