Stuff: I happened across this page and thought others might find it interesting. Tips for getting the game working for online play.

Skreczi: Our version has preconfigure network host - client

menu start -> GOG.com -> Master of orion 1 + 2 -> Master of Orion 2 -> Network

There one player choose Host and others choose client. Host needs to give others his IP and then he choose Multiplayer -> Network -> start new game
Clients input into console CONNECT host.ip.address
Then they also choose multiplayer - connect network and choose Muptiplayer -> Network -> join game

Have fun everyone! :)

great job GoG setting fixing the multiplayer.
I already own MOO2 on CdRom but bought it on GoG for the Fixed MP over dosbox with IPX. Let you tell you guys IPX is headache free over a router.. ;)
GoG.com you made a great game even better! Thank you so much for all the effort you've put into continuing the legacy of Moo2! GoG 4 ever!
D: I get the "Comm failure" thing when I try that... How to fix it? Edit: oh wait, I'm an idiot.

I was about to hit "Send" on a message about how I tried it last night with my wife, and she couldn't join my game. So I tried it again this morning, and it worked both with me joining her game and she joining mine. Great job, GOG!
A much simpler way to play multiplayer would be to just play it on Gameranger and you don't have to worry about any of that.
How do you actually use it with gameranger? MoO2 show up but it points to a bad .exe in the folder, and wont let me change location.
Should I assume the GoG version has the same issues as the original version? I found, in multiplayer, that conquering Antares sometimes led to the game just continuing rather than declaring a player to be the winner.
My friend and I are using the host and client programs as instructed earlier in this thread, but every time either of us try to join the other's game, the dosbox 'cannot connect' to the host's IP address (yes we know to put 'connect host.ip.address' in the command line). Any help here? Im itching to play one of the best games ever after so long.

I'm having this same problem with GameRanger (after having unsuccessfully tried the GOG.com way to host a multiplayer game).

Anybody have any luck with MOO2 and GameRanger...?
Trying to play cross platform with my PC to my friends Mac over LAN and we keep getting the error for not being able to connect to host IP. We know the IP is correct and we have carefully followed all steps on this forum. Is anyone else had this issue with connecting cross platform? Any advice on how to fix it? Please help!
Me and my brother were trying to play with each other, we both own windows 7 computers, dell, and I load up the game as the host, he types in my IP, I start an online NET game and it says 1 player has joined (me). He clicks network ( I did the same ) and join game. He comes up with an empty lobby, no games at all. Can anyone help me??? D:

Im yet to try moo2 multi with gog installer so my help ability is limited but i would try reading here:
http://www.gog.com/forum/master_of_orion_series/moo2_multiplayer_how_to

And try hamachi (really good, free and easy program to create local network over the internet) here:
http://www.gog.com/forum/master_of_orion_series/moo2_multiplayer_via_hamachi/post3

If this still doesn't work, try posting some more details (its possible that some antivirus/firewall program is restricting connection etc), its really hard to say what can be the problem from the short description you gave.

(edit: wrong link fixed)
