I just purchased Master of Orion 3 and have installed it on my Windows 8 64 bit PC. Whenever I click the icon to start the game I don't get anything. It seems to start loading, but then just stops. I never get any of the game screens, just an icon on the task bar. I've tried changing the compatibility mode which doesn't appear to work. Not sure what else to try with this game.

Anyone else running this in Windows 8 64 bit?

Thanks!

Edit: Solved.

I managed to get this working. I searched and couldn't find anything on running MoO3 in Windows 8, but I tried the recommendations for Windows 7. One suggestion was to set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2. This seemed to work for me. Also, it seems the game is just slow to launch. For a period of time it sits doing nothing and Task Manager will show "Not Responding" for the MoO3 executable for at least 30 - 60 seconds.
I can confirm that on windows 8.1 64-bit setting the compatibility to XP SP2 and then letting the app have about 60 seconds to launch while it is in the 'not responding' state works just fine.
I am trying to install and plan MOOII with Windows 8 64-bit. I've tried adjusting the resolution and compatability modes but nothing seems to work. Has anyone had any luck?

Are you talking about MoO2 or III?

What are your problems or errors?

It's MoO2 - The error message I receive no matter what I do is that installation/game won't run with 64-bit.

Okeeey, just tried still works for me....on W8.1

So you can not even install the game? That would mean your installer is blocking it.

The version I used (installer) was 2.0.0.16

What is yours?

First of all: Do you even run the GoG version? Second, there is a Windows Version Orion95 which wont run natively under your Windows. The Orion2.exe is a Dos Programm which runs via DosBox, which is what the GoG Version uses.

Actually I might have found something to get the Windows version running as well.....

Haven't tried it yet, but already wanted to share:

I'll let you know, if it worked for me on W8.1 (As soon as I have time ;) )
Hi there

I'm experiencing the same problems zltippet, and I've tried to set it to XPsp2, but it doesn't make any change in my case.

It is still all blank,

after a while I get a small message box saying "unhandled exception".

Does anyone have any more advice?
