Was it not possible to travel through or near nebulae if you have a leader with that movement (sorry the name slipped my brain now) bonus? Maybe they have one... and an invisible one at that.
In this save, a player colony will be attacked by a space crystal on the next turn. The game consistently crashes during that battle.

Is it intended fhat the 1.50 improved patch takes away Armor Piercing from lasers? i don't see that listed anywhere in the changes, but it's not available in game. Just curious what the reasoning was on that.

Hi. Yes that is intended. This and other changes to weapons & systems, race design and ship design can be found in the 1.50 Excel manual.

1.50 Improved is not a patch btw. It is a mod on top of the patch.

The improved mod is an exercise to utilize new optional game mechanics that the patch allows for, blending in some tweaks, improving Ai, and a light rebalancing of race picks, all without making it a 'radical' mod like ice or vdc. The changes in the improved mod reflect my personal preferences of game mechanics and rules and are therefore highly subjective. If you want to play just the vanilla patch, then select "1.50 Standard" in the launcher.
Thank you for this great patch! I love this game.

I had a customized DosBox configuration with an unusual screen resolution and a lower sound level in DosBox. With the installer of 1.50 I did not know what to do and I found this:

The new folder named "150" after installation holds the dosbox.conf where I can now copy my old configuration into, like
---------------------
[sdl]
windowresolution=1700x1440

[autoexec]
mixer master 20:20
mixer spkr 20:20
mixer sb 20:20
mixer fm 20:20

orion150.exe
--------------------

! But the installer was launching orion150.exe before the autoexec section is executed. A workaround for this is using the
/date
switch in the installer, so it will not start and execute your autoexec section and then you control the start of orion150.exe !
I am playing the 1.50 patch and I am looking for strange things. I would like to know if some of you know more about the following weapons firing in battle:

I am building arrays of light beam weapons in my backbone ships for cleaning up incoming missiles on the battle field. I am bundling small numbers of beam weapons or even singling out each weapon. I am doing this because I am deactivating most of them before targeting the incoming missiles. Because, if I keep all activated, the array is exhausting completely on a single missile target. If I go one by one I can clean up much more. In combination with "wait" it is very effective breaking through the lines. It is also good to spread out fire for killing marines on more than one ship before entering.

Sometimes the array does not exhaust itself on a single missile target. This is especially true for one activated weapon when shots are left for other targets. But the same weapon, if bundled with the complete array on the same missile target will exhaust the complete array firing.

So it is best to single out each weapon but it is a little tiring...

This bug is now fixed in 1.50.21

It is good to spread your weapons over the available slots. This gives you more optionality / more control over which targets you want to fire at. BUT, a slot with beam weapon does not keep firing at a target if that target is already destroyed (unless target is a planet).

I don't know when it started, but I'm trying to run 1.50.21 and it's either crashing or freezing right after displaying the "Loading Master of Orion 2. Please Wait." message. So far I've tried running it on my Android phone in Magic DosBox (crashes) and in lDosBox (freezes). It doesn't seem to matter what mod I set it to load (I tried enabling, one at a time, 150, 150i, and ICE-X, and it happened with all three).

It happens with 1.50.20 also (I had that installed and updated in the hopes that it would fix it). Orion2.exe works fine. Orion2v140 works fine. I have a backup of 1.50.11, and that works fine as well.

I would try other versions until I find the one where the problem started, but I only see 1.50.21 for download on moo2mod.com.

Edit: to be clear, it crashes the whole emulator, somehow. It isn't just the game crashing back to DOS.

dunno what might cause it. 1.50 is developed testing under DOSBOX.
lDosBox or Magic DosBox might not be compatible.
Can you try 1.50.18.3. Perhaps that one still works?

I just gave that a try. It seems to have the same problem. I'll give it a try on actual DosBox later. It'll probably work there since that's what you test on, but I want to make sure. Maybe there could be something wrong with my install but in a way that worked fine until the more recent versions of the patch.
