I will be making an alpha version available for a Java implementation of MOO1 soon, probably by the end of May. This is primarily for testing and feedback for the UI interaction along with the various aspects of colony development and expansion throughout the galaxy.

I would prefer players who are familiar with the original MOO1 as I think their expectations would be more in line with the intent of the game.

I have been running a dev blog for a few of my friends at java-moo.com, but I am getting to the point where I will need some more constructive feedback on bugs or unpolished features.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

That's great stuff! Keep in mind that this is intended to be a MOO1 clone, basically with an updated user interface and graphics. I am resisting the temptation (successfully, so far) to add on my personal desired feature list.

A test version is not available yet. I have a few more polish items to finish but I expect that to take no more than 3-4 weeks. Really the only big item left is the fleet listing screen and that remains simply because I haven't figured out how to lay it out yet (the original MOO1 version of the UI is pretty bad).

There won't be a public link for the version when it's ready. I'll contact the volunteers directly :P

Just fyi, if anyone is interested in the test, I've updated the blog with details on how and when. I will, however, need an email address for anyone who wants to test. You can privately message me here, or email me directly.
I probably finished MOO1 100 times. I can help you in any way i can. I looked at the side but couldnt understand what i must do to apply for test.

The first alpha test is going to be wrapping up in a few days, so it's probably a little too late to get involved now. There'll be another one when all of the races are added; I'll let you know when that one starts.
I'm really new to MOO1, but I have a suggestion.

Please, please, PLEASE add a tutorial. I really really want to get into MOO1. It looks like a really fun game! The problem is, I have no way to figure out how to do things starting out. The game basically dumps you in without so much as a "By the way, here's what you're trying to do."

Anyway...that'd be my suggestion :)

Not really.
Thank you very much! I wasn't aware! :)

What can I say I'm a giver. More seriously have you read the manual? The game expects you have before starting. I personally found it quite thorough. I've been playing MOO1 again and having a blast. It's worth sitting down and reading the manual beforehand if you haven't already.

I'm certainly not opposed to a tutorial, and I'm sure it would help with newcomers. It's also a fair bit of work.
