I have a really old os9 version of moo2 which I've been playing through SheepShaver (an OS9 emulator). SheepShaver crashes a lot. On a legit classic Mac (9.1.x) moo2 still crashed occasionally enough to notice, and had problems in classic mode on OS X when that was still a thing. I don't have the luxury of using legit classic macs anymore. I'm shopping for a more compatible version of MOO2.

Which version is best in my scenario? The DOS version, the Windows version, the modern Mac version, or the old classic super buggy Os9 version I already own?

From the GoG Store page:

"Minimum system requirements - Windows: Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8, 1 GHz Processor (1.4 GHz recommended), 256MB RAM (512 recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), Mouse, Keyboard

Minimum system requirements - Mac: OS X 10.6.8 or later. Processor: Intel Core Duo 2GHz+, Memory: 1GB of RAM, Graphics: 64MB of video memory, Recommended two-button mouse, or Apple mouse with Secondary Button / Secondary Click enabled."

The GoG bundle is patched to version 1.4b23 (which I believe was an unofficial patch released long after the original publisher had gone the way of the dodo by avid fans that fixed a lot of bugs still present in the last official 1.3 patch), and they have already done all the fiddly stuff to get it to run on modern machines. It is as close to plug-and-play as you are going to find. Thus it is pretty much a no-brainer if you are looking for the most stable version of the game which is easy to run on a newer system.
