I was deleted stuff from my PC and found the old MOO1+2 installer, which has 155 MB. Now compared to that the new MOO1 installer has 20 MB and MOO2 still over 150MB, so all in all I feel like it's still better to use the old installer if you want to have both games.

How much total size do your games have after installation when you install them separately? I'm considering installing the old installer just to see how much space do you save when you install them together and not separately, and if there is actually any difference at all - it would be hilarious if the new MOO2 alone would be as big as the old MOO1+2 together.

I think the reason for difference is Dosbox. When they separated the games, they had to use separate dosbox for each game.
After installation:

MOO1: 16.3 MBs (24 MBs with Dosbox)
MOO2: 328 MBs (336 MBs with Dosbox)
Dosbox alone is 8,25 MBs

Still, I believe the difference is not that significant for today's machines.

The question is a rather pointless exercise. The game data is compressed within the installer and therefore not directly indicative of the final game folder size. The installer itself then also comes with a certain amount of data. The ads for example are images contained within the installer.

In short, the size of a particular installer compared to another is not very useful knowledge. Differing compression methods may be in use even.
