You can put 1000 hours into this game and still find new ways to play it.
Amen to that.

And for new ideas, feel free to browse some of the threads on this very subforum.
I picked it up for $1.19. Great deal. Can't wait to try it.
Thank you for the warm welcome, I'll probably lurk for a while. After playing the MoO titiles and then watching Quill18's videos of MoM I knew I had to get this. Especially as Atari's current state makes me wonder how long it will be offered here. Once I saw it for offered for such a pittance yesterday I knew it was a "no-brainer" and instasnagged it.

I'm hoping to give this a shot over the weekend with kyrub's patch.
Considering I loved the Age of Wonders series, it looks like I'll have a lot of fun with MoM.
It lacks a couple of features you'd expect in newer games and is a bit clunky at times, but the game mechanics are great.

People compare MoM and AoW quite often, probably because AoW copied a lot of MoM's mechanics. Truthfully though, they're significantly different games. AoW is really good as far as roleplaying and each scenario telling a story, which is something MoM doesn't even really try to do. MoM is extremely focused on the goal of the player defeating all the other wizards and becoming the Master of Magic, and it's superb in that respect.

I'm aware.
MoM was the grandfather of Fantasy TBS/4x games.
Hello old and new friends! (especially EvilLoynis!)

I got my cousin to try this game. He summoned some unicorns which proceeded to destroy the next neutral army that attacked him. Without thinking, he yelled over skype, "MY UNICORNS ARE BADASS!!" I could not stop laughing for 10 minutes.

Anyone else have any great beginner stories?

Well, I missed it on the sale..... So I just bought it!

I never played it the first time around. I pretty much a console-only gamer in those days. Very excited to play this game.

Actually I myself was console only until around 1998 and even then It was only because I went to internet cafes which ended up costing me quite a bit, not the comp use as such really but the snacks being their got me buying unlike at home where I had my own food and drinks.

Good to see your still around SamK. Hope your cousin enjoys the surprise that Shadow Demons and Sky Drakes will give him haha.

Thanks!
I never actually played this one way back when, but as someone who sunk many hours into MOO 2, Civ 2 and old-school M:tG this is pretty awesome so far. I can't believe I had never heard of it until GOG!
