I got this game around 2 days ago. It's the special edition. Everything was working fine but then the game crashed on the first vent. The DLC mission works fine tho, the only problem is with the main game.

I tried reinstalling it, checked to see if the problem was with my graphics card, and nope. Tried to run it as administrator, or as XP and Seven compatibility mode, still nothing. Then i searched for it on google and every goddamn thread it's the same thing: people keep telling me to reinstall the game. Even in the official forums it's something like "send the crash log to us" and then that's it, nobody posts back so i have no idea what the problem is and how to fix it. I tried reinstalling it on my friend's pc and the problem continues. Sadly to send the crash log i'd have to own this game on Steam, which i do not.

I've been in like 10 different forums and none, i repeat, NONE, gave me the answer for this. I can't be the only one with this problem. Please, someone tell me that there IS some way to fix this.

You're saying it crashes on your friend's PC as well. Have you re-downloaded it or did you use the same installer you used on your PC? (re-download the installer)
Do the two of you use the same Windows version? Same anti-virus? (disable it)

Don't install the game into Program Files but into a custom location on your main drive like C:\GOG Games\

EDIT: neomaniak found out that the problem can be fixed by finding the directX installer in the game folder and installing it.

After searching for about 40 minutes i finally found the problem.

Apparently the game has problems on graphic cards that have restrictions on non-power of two sized textures, they even made an update for this, altho i still suffered from it, which makes me ask myself why.

Anyway, from what i understand, the problem can be fixed by finding the directX installer in the game folder and, well, installing it. And that's it. The game now works fine, both the Main game and the DLC mission. I'm kinda mad that the installer didn't do that by itself, but meh. The problem is finally solved.

Thank you for the reply. I'm gonna mark it as the solution since you gave me the motivation to keep trying!

Hi guys!

Just got it on sale. On my Latitude e6530 (two graphics cards: Intel HD 4000 + NVIDIA®NVS™5200M) it crashes instantly when I click "Start game".

Have Windows 8.1.

I did:
a) in Nvidia panel I forced Nvidia to be used when game starts
b) reinstalled Direct-X from game folder as recommended here
c) disabled Avast anti-virus
d) reinstalled game + DLC

And still no-go.

Try launching the .exe from the install folder. Post and let everyone know if that works.
Tried to start 'game.exe' from 'bin' directly. Menu is starting, clicking Start Game -> crash.
