So basically, since the patch 1.3 there is an option to skip the race in the Fairplay mission.

However, whenever I use the option I get an game over screen instead.

Anyone else has the same problem?

Nevermind, by some miracle I actually managed to win the race.

I kinda remember it being much harder back in 2004 when I first played it, but hey.

I'm pretty sure there has never been a 1.3 patch or a "skip race" option from the devs. But I keep hearing about these things on the internet. I'd love a "skip race" button, that would be amazing. I hate that race vehemently.

These things need clarity. Is the 1.3 patch an unofficial fan-made patch?

It's literally written there next to the green Play button - 1.3.
Although from what Ive heard, it's basically just a re-branded version 1.2. There is one, but it doesn't work which is my point. :D

I'd take a screenshot, but Mafia for some reason refuses to acknowledge the Print Screen button. Strange indeed.

It's just a bit of confusion over the patch numbering.

The file is named mafia_patch_1.2_eng.exe
But when you install the update it's called v1.3!

Installed my retail copy to see what the patch notes state in the installer.

1.3 is the latest and GOG have patched as the game to the latest official version as they do with all games.

You can also google for a save game file to bypass the race.

I'm having the same problem.

Ok, so I know I already put a post in this thread, but the Race is starting to get to me, and I'm having trouble creating a new thread. I also see there is a bit of a misunderstanding as to what the problem is.

When you click the skip race option in the ingame menu, it shows you the race results and then brings you to the "You Failed" screen where it gibes you the option to retry or go to the main menu.

Is anyone else having this problem, and is there a solution?

"Skip race" is more like "restart race".



"Skipping" the race does not mean "winning the race". A patch made the race easier (at least I've read that), but the option "skip race" is only meant for ending (and failing) the mission to start over again if you know that you've sucked so hard* that there is no chance in even finishing the race.


*actually, you didn't suck. The developers did - it's the game, not you.

I'm just now playing this game, and the race is making me mad. It's not the AI, it's the physics. I'm pretty sure the real cars weren't made out of paper and had invisible wings. The AI doesn't seem to be affected by the same physics. It's driving me absolutely mad trying to deal with this, and that one little spot with the mini-snake? Yeah, that can go to hell. More than half of my tries go away to that spot, even if I slow down, because i'm landing on my side, upsidedown, etc.

I noticed in an earlier mission, the AI doesn't fly as much. Had to kill that guy? I realized quickly that you aren't meant to kill him early, so i just followed him until he gave up and got out of his car. I feel like there's something you're supposed to do in this race (i think it's making everyone wreck), just to make sure you feel like a total scumbag for working for these guys. I understand wanting to limit a character to certain choices, especially if the PC has a specific narrative, but the point of games with a story is to have some degree of freedom.

Anyone figure out how to take screenies? I hate how it's bound.

EDIT: OMFG, the poor guy who went through that to give us those saves. Check the timestamps. I understand he probably had work to do, but that huge gap that's not as prevalent as the other gaps show. You can tell he went to bed, got up, and totally wished he had not played this game anymore.

Good god I forgot how awful that race was. Whoever designed it should have been fired and never been allowed to develop again.

So besides the saves there's really no option to skip that miserable pile of filth?

Tee-Hee. Some of us OLDtimers made it BEFORE patch 1.1!!?? And I only smashed 1 Logitech keyboard ;-D
