Hello,
I have a dat weird problem with Mafia - the is no sound, at all, in cinematics. Be it the advertisement before loading main menu, or the intro before Tommy walks into the restaurant - nothing. And there is no difference between restoring original music or not in case of cinematic, either. In both cases they are still silent. Does anyone have same problem or found a way to fix it?

If my memory serves right there was simillar case with Max Payne, where the problem lies with modern systems being unable to read sound files. It was fixed, however... though would need to search for it again. My point is - could this be the reason I have no sound in cinematics? Though the files themselves, outside of the game, open normaly and with sound, so I am totaly lost now...

try to install a video/sound codec pack.
k-lite should include everything you need.

I tried this already on a different problem with a different game, so this is not it. Like I said - outside of game they are played normaly with sound - only game refuses to do so.

I had the same issue with sound not working during BINK cutscenes. I solved it thanks to this post, although it was fiddly.

At first I installed the codec in the first link but it didn't work so I uninstalled it.

The next day, I tried installing it again but this time, the sound worked during cutscenes for some reason. I don't know what was different.

Could be because of the systm reboot, sometimes drivers require a restart.
Bink and Smacker are somthing special anyway, they don't really behave like oder codecs.

Anyway, I am glad you can now enjoy the game.
