Does anyone have information on the formats of the original game files? I know that the sound files are encoded in a wave like format but what about the rest of the resources?

Thank you. That post has some good explanations of the formats used in Max, and the utilities used to decode them. That page also links to another page/post with some programs. Im looking through the base page for those programs now, though it happens to be in Russian and google would prefer not to translates what it sees as "un safe".

So from that page I'm going to try to find the utilities to view the resrouces and then either export them or see how to read them my self.

Has any good come out of this research? Would be possible using those "decoding" tools you mention to make the game's directory smaller? I like the game but it's pretty tough keeping a 500MB folder in my disk space all the time, it would be cool if there was a way to remove movies and even voices to make the game smaller. Not everyone has terabytes of space you know. And uninstalling all the time is time consuming. (not mentioning wear and tear of the disk)
