It seems that you really know what you're doing, and that it solves these problems. I just wish I would understand what you're writing.

For example, you're saying I have to do this command: "PMWBIND /U MAX.EXE". I am guessing that I have to put the program PMWBIND into the folder where "MAX.EXE" is. But where is it? I found the folder where the DOS-BOX is and where, it seems, MAX is located. in my case it's: "C:\GOG Games\MAX". There is *no* MAX.exe there. I made a search with Agent Ransack on C: and there's no MAX.exe anywhere. The closest I could find is "maxrun.exe". Is that the one?
Then if all that would work, I guess I would end up with an unbinded program that needs something to run. You say that I could use DOS32A. Where is that located? Or - where should I type "DOS32A MAX.LE"?

Or is all that not working anymore since 2009, because (maybe) GOG did change the installation? If that's the case, what's the solution now?

GOG already does this for you now. Since a long time MAXRUN.EXE is shipped with DOS/32A already bound to the LE executable instead of the original DOS4GW stub.

As noted in the previous forum entry this way many of the memory corruption issues are gone. But there are plenty of defects remaining in the game. On this github project you can find a work in progress list of defects found in MAX v1.04: https://klei1984.github.io/max/defects/ of course this does not help you run the game better until those get fixed...

Thank you for your explanation!
This is so sad. Certainly I was only looking for a solution, since M.A.X. is still acting up very badly in longer games (which is, what I like to play).
M.A.X. is a really good game for me (it has all the things that I like) - only the AI could be a bit smarter. I do already all the tricks, like saving almost every round and stuff. I also noticed, that it likes crashing, when removing buildings - like building the wrong one by accident or having to build something else at that spot, or - and that is my main source of frustration - by building something where a connector pipeline is running. When the building is done and you want to move the construction, it crashes. And it's the connector getting removed that is the problem. I can live with all that (when the last mentioned thing happens, I just kill the constructor there (shooing it up with a missile) and never build anything there anymore, but what really spoils the game for me: Sometimes the game crashed, because the enemy shoots up one of those broken connectors. And I can't do anything about that. Loading the previous saved game (if saving alternately) it usually doesn't help, because the enemy is already on its way to shoot up that connector. This is so frustrating.
And MAX2 is a major let-down. They really managed to remove everything from MAX1 that makes it great to produce MAX2.
I usually leave MAX alone then, but I keep coming back to it after some weeks.
I don't own that many games I like, so I just can't NOT play MAX.
