I would like to play the game against a player.
How do I do that? How find players for M.A.X. games and play in multiplayer mode?

Sal4: A way to start would be to post some contact info here, so players can reach you. They you could exchange info about time and later IPs and such things.
I would recommend an instant messenger or irc.
With the GOG version you can host a Server and let people connect to it. (There are shortcuts after the GoG M.a.x. version in the all programs menu )
You could also search for player in bigger communities like

http://www.rumaxclub.ru Both have a forum you can use.
The issue with the original M.a.x. is, that its not very crash resistant. It can crash any time it wants to.
On the Russian Maxclub
http://www.rumaxclub.ru, they use their very own Version, Max Gold by Artlarv, which is played by Mail. They exchange save files after every turn in a HotSeat like game, as far as I know.
The Max Reloaded guys (
https://www.maxr.org/) have also their very own build of MAX it aims to play Multiplayer in real time against human players.Therefor single player experience is limited.
Both projects are more or less work in progress, and I am thankful for that.

I didn´t know that it is possible to host a server for this game with the gog version. That being said I can´t figure out how to do it. Could you show me how? I would like to play this game with a friend in the same house! Thanks for the online info though, I might give that a try as well.
