machtharry: Solution doesnt work for me... game crashes around turn 150. Even with 128 memory.

Win7 64-bit. Relativly new Computer
Any other ideas?
None at the moment.

The original M.A.X. crashed at turns above 99 even in a exclusively DOS state even with all the recommended high-end hardware at the time it was released.

M.A.X. 2? Well, that game just crashed...
---constantly.

:)

This is why M.A.X. & M.A.X.2 needs a sequel... badly... b/c they are fantastic strategy games with a level of detail unseen in modern strategy games even with their fancy '3deez grafix' engines.

strangely, no one mentions this dosextender fix?
https://www.maxr.org/showtopic.php?id=762 (http://www.sid6581.net/pmodew/)

in general, a better dos4gw drop in substitute for many games is http://dos32a.narechk.net/index_en.htmlhttp://dos32a.narechk.net/index_en.html]http://dos32a.narechk.net/index_en.html[/url[/url]

(PS: I noticed, it was discussed before http://www.gog.com/forum/m_a_x_series/changing_dos_extenders_might_be_the_solution_for_all_of_us )

Thanks for th reply!

However, I'd really believe it is time for a M.A.X. with updated tools.
I'll wait for that,
M.A.X. never crashed on my computer(Bought it on release, retail). However, I used to get the End-Turn Timer lock-up at, around, turn 150. This was supposed to be fixed in 1.04 but never worked for me.

All this stuff about the DOS extender being buggy is great an all but, seriously now, if it was that simple, don't you think GoG would had done it, already?

well, gog is not perfect & fixes only what is really required (or, when there are enough complaints) & is conservative about including external unofficial software/fixes (like alternative dos-extenders). For instance dungeon keeper II is still also buggy despite having external fixes available for several things (like missing non-spawning creatures in some maps).

You are right, of course. Did this fix work for you?

Well, I didn't had this problem with MAX myself but used alternative dos extenders successfully with other dos games like Archaemedian Dynasty for improved stability and speed. Therefore, I can believe the reports of other MAX users that alternative dos extenders help here too.
