The game LUMO is outdated and Steam has been updated already since 2017 while this update still is missing on GOG. I decided to contact the dev and he told me that it is out of his hands and I'd have to contact the publisher (RisingStarGames) - they should have all builds available. Since RisingStarGames has been bought by Thunderfulgames it was them who answered.

The guy who replied (andreas@thunderfulgames.com) told me

"The update on Steam was to fix a leaderboard issue, and there was an update to fix some controller problems. But due to technical matters, there won’t be any more updates. Not to Steam and neither to GoG. I’m sorry that I can't give you a more helpful answer and I wish you a nice evening."

So I asked him if he could explain those technical matters and I also asked him why I as a GOG customer should receive less than a Steam customer for my money while they don't have a problem with taking my money. Here's the reply I got mere seconds after I wrote this:

"Unfortunately not. I’m sorry that I can’t help you further."

So not only will LUMO not get the same update that Steam received in 2017
store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=345480 (GOG is still on release 1.11.8)

We won't even get any explanation. Way to go publishers - enjoy our money ....

Is the game able to be finished the way it is? Does the update make a huge difference? Normally I would care but If not then I wouldn't say it's that big of an issue.

As far as I know the game is finishable but I would not agree that it is not a big issue to be treated as second class just because you bought on GOG. Also, there might have been bugs (maybe even game breaking) some experienced and some not (due to many possible hardware combinations) so it might as well be that those fixed issues could be important for those. Anyway, since they were really tight lipped in telling me anything all I can say for sure ist that the game is outdated and due to so called "technical issues" the publisher decided not to update it on GOG to the latest available files ... of course the publisher did not have any technical problems to get my money - same money as on Steam. Not a big issue? Imo it is - but everybody of course is allowed to have his or her own opinion.

I was referring to whether or not the game was a broken mess without this update. I mean yeah it sucks that it wont come out, but on the other hand it could just be one of those things where it's only a few minor tweaks that don't effect the overall game itself.

I mean now adays with patches, there are many cases where devs just tweak stuff that they didn't think about the first time even if it doesn't make a whole lot of difference and you probably wouldn't even really notice at all. That kind of thing I can look past and even our favorite games from the past back before patches where able to be implemented (via internet) had some bugs/glitches but where still perfectly playable.

That's basically what I'm getting at. I don't think it should be condemned if it's still perfectly playable even with some issues here and there... and like I said this is coming from someone (me) who is actually a stickler for patches. lol

From what i'm seeing on the patch history available on the steam store a lot of the bug fixes are related to controllers. So if you want to play with controller you should probably get the steam version.

This is what was fixed in v1.17.2:

I've just pushed up a new build that has the following changes:

- Update InControl to 1.6.10
- Enabled XInput
- Fixed "submit" action for joypads on the pause screen UI
- Made the button navigation explicit in the save/quit screen

The new version of InControl has improved support for XBox One wireless controllers running on Windows 7.
And this is the v1.11.8 that marko says gog have:

Hi!

The latest build of Lumo addresses some long standing issues with XBox One / Xbox 360 (Wired and Wireless) controllers that have been present in the game since the Win10 Anniversary update.

This has been tested with the following pads:

- PS4
- Xbox 360 (Wired and Wireless)
- XBox One (wired)

Other joypads should work, but may require you to define your own controller mappings in Settings->Controls. Fight sticks are not directly supported.

In addition to this I've re-written the redefine controls screen [and back-end], fixing several small issues that have been in there since release.

Other fixes:

- Several affected achievements re-written
- Small balancing changes
- Clue added to the Ice Cube Stairs room

Mac and Linux were unaffected by the original bugs but I've put out new versions for all platforms just in-case.

Cheers!

FoxySage:
Interesting information. I was about to purchase this game as it's on sale with high discount, but now this holds me back from doing so.

I don't feel like using keyboard to play games that support controllers, since I reckon I will miss a lot of fun in that way. Perhaps I won't buy it until getting myself a descent gamepad so that I'm able to figure out how much impact does the lack of the latest patch have on the game.

Yeah, I'm going to second this as a major issue.

Got this for a six year old to play, with a setup connected to a Windows 7 media PC and a XBox One Wireless Controllers.

Read through the developer's website and he has as of 2017 full fixes for Windows 7, XInput issues. However, for some reason the publishers won't push this latest version out to GoG.com?

I mean I love GoG, I always go GoG over any other platform (Steam, Origin, Amazon et al.) given the choice, but more and more I'm running into these updates not being pushed to GoG issue and it's difficult not to feel like a second class consumer when this happens.

Edit: This is the Steam thread that had me thinking Lumo supported XBox One Controllers on Windows 7, great job by the publishers shafting GoG users:

As someone thinking about buying this game (and leaning toward buying it before reading this thread), this is a big deterrent to me. It sounds like the developer has done their part and it's in the publisher's hands, but based on the email exchange posted, it doesn't seem like they're going to push the update to GOG.

I don't even care about the controller updates since I usually use xpadder with various unsupported controllers anyway.

- Small balancing changes
- Clue added to the Ice Cube Stairs room

But these changes affect some aspect of game play and should be considered important.
Alright, if you've already bought this from GoG, and need controller support, which you can't get due to the utter failure by the Publisher to push updates from the Developer to GoG, you're in luck.

Looking into it Lumo is built on the Unity3D engine, and all such games suffer from Axis issues after Microsoft updated their drivers back in the day.

Given that you already have controllers working with your PC, here is the workaround:

1) Set the game to run from the Unity3D launcher: to do this find your Lumo game shortcut (or create one), right-click and select "Properties", go to "Target:" and at the end of the shortcut text enter in "--show-screen-selector"

2) Run the game in Administrator mode, this is important as Registry keys need to be created and your changes may not save if you don't do this. To do this right-click the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator", if prompted select "Yes"

3) Remap the Axis: to do this go to the "Inputs" tab, double-click on the Joystick inputs to update then in this order:
Joy 1 - on the right stick of your controller push horizontally (repeat this one more time as this one sometimes maps the wrong Axis the first time)
Joy 2 - on the right stick of your controller push vertically
Joy 3 - on the left stick of your controller push horizontally
Joy 4 - on the left stick of your controller push vertically
Joy 5 - on the D pad push a horizontal button
Joy 6 - on the D pad push a vertical button

4) Launch the game and enjoy =).

The same can be done for other Unity3D games with this controller issue such as CLARC and Ittle Dew. If anyone has questions shoot me a message, I'll respond if I see it.

Either way the six year old this was bought for hated the platforming aspects of Lumo and still won't play it now haha.

I wanted to buy this on steam a few days ago when it was on a super cheap flash deal. For whatever reason, it just would not let me make the purchase. Tried a few times and in various different ways until it complained that I had tried to make too many purchases in the last hour and I should wait a few hours and try again. Really not helpful when there's just a few minutes left in the sale. :(

I saw that it was almost as cheap on GOG so I bought that version instead not realising it was an older version number with some controller issues. I was not happy when I realised my Xbox controller wouldn't work with it and learned that the Steam version has this issue fixed and GOG doesn't.

All is not lost though as I was able to get the controller working in the end. I did this before I saw the solution posted above by Proxy. My solution's more straightfoward though so you might want to give this a try first. Here's what I did.

- Open Steam application.
- Click on "Add a Game" (bottom left corner).
- Select "Add a Non-Steam Game"
- Select your GOG version of Lumo from the list.
- Click on "Add Selected Programs".

You can now launch the game from your Steam library and the controller just works.
I'm on Windows 11 with XBox Series X wireless controller, so I can't confirm this will work with other versions of windows or other controllers, but it's worth a try. If you still have problems, on the launch game page try Manage (cog icon) -> Properties -> Controller and fiddle with the options in there. I didn't need to change anything from the defaults, personally.

I suppose SteamInput has something to do with why this works. If it doesn't work for you, then I'm sorry if I got your hopes up, but there's still always Proxy's solution above to try.

Cheers.
