Now I can't stop playing. I haven't slept in the last 30 hours, and now I'm suffering from a very severe case of onemoreturnitis. D:
I loved this game when I was young, and now I remember why I never couldn't bring myself to sleep even in the wee hours. Gah!
(also am reminded why I loved this game to pieces when I was a wee lad, btw :P)
So for those of you hesitant to buy this, do yourselves a favour and buy it - unless, of course, your doctor's prescription says that you are as susceptible to onemoreturnitis like me lol.

LOL, so true :-D.
Also, I like how you make your this-is-a-great-game threads look like you are about to say how much they suck. +rep given! ;-)
Hehe :P It's really sickeningly addictive. This, and MOO2, were my addictions back then. I'm really glad I get to relive it all over again - 2 hours just flew by, and the only reason why I stopped to type this was because I accidentally quit the game lol.
This game is demonic, I tell ya!

Ah, my personal game cocktail of choice was LotR2 and XCOM.
Yes, even though the real-time battles are relatively simple (though sieges are always fun), the turn-based management part is like crack. Struggling to decide whether to cut and run from some little runt county in the middle of several armies' paths, or stick it out and keep it...fun times.
I just wish I could get into Lords of Magic...that was the first game I ever felt "hyped" for, and I've never been able to stand more than an hour or so before I put it away.
Lords of Magic is an acquired taste, why not try it once more. It might help if you cheat a little, and play as an air theif. Then you can just stealth around the place shooting, then hiding again. Meanwhile you can practice different unit combinations and get used to the tactics.
As for LotR2, it really is great isn't it. I find the actual batlles a little too easy. The pitched battles they always leave their archers behind for my knights to slaughter, and the sieges get repetitive once you know how to take them down.
But what I really can't understand is LotR 3. Why?

Why what? It was a good game, different from the other LotR games, but good on its own.

It was a huge dissapointment. And what do you consider the games best fuetures?

It was too far "hands off" management. They had a really good style of game, and released something that was in no way related to that. I suppose the main "why?" about it is "why was it called LOTR 3 and not given a different title" - it was not a sequel to 2. I played it through for ages expecting it to build up in complexity, but it didn't - it really was that simple.
I completely agree. I have downloaded about 10 other games and have barely touched them compared to this one. The best part is that even playing on the toughest settings, I still cannot lose. But I keep coming back for more despite the fact that it's not the toughest challenge out there (especially if you can fight through the sometimes "tough" early game). I guess to rub it in their faces.
Great game!
Haha, amen! Just bought it myself, its been a few years since I last played it, and even though I have the boxed copy on my shelf, its so worth buying and having here on gog.com! Great gameplay and music <3
Hahaha, I am glad I am not the only one. I got this for an old 486/25Mhz processor. Played for years, then i lost the cd. Found it cleaning out the basement, STILL in the CD drive of the 486 machine. I got it working on a modern computer, life ending again. Can't get it working on XP now though. Found this version, cant wait to waste more hours to come!!!!

Check your options for both "battles" and "speech." If the first isn't checked, you don't do the fights; if the second isn't on, you don't hear the voice.

For sure on LoM. The back story, the attention to Urak's history...the designers did a GREAT job in regards to immersing you in the world. Now, the first versions of LoM were a disaster of buggy coding, which would ruin the immersion every fifth turn or so. Thank god for the patches and SE.
