That's incredible! Thank you GOG for bringing superior LOTR 1 Windows version. You're the best!
Awesome! I'll be re-installing. :)
Have to note: the game works with Vista but doesn't work under XP. That's strange because retail CD-Version works perfectly under XP. Seems there's still something left to fix. ;(

It would be awesome if you provided more details about how it doesnt work, because that message isn't really helpful (like at all)

edit: works fine on my machine.

The game under XP loads to main screen (without intro) and then freezes with no mouse cursor on screen. Also no sound whatsoever.
On good note: tried it under Windows 7, works fine.
My version works on XP just fine so might be a problem on your end abr_alex

Hmmm... Mine loads fine (I get the black screen for a little while and then intro loads, I tested the game and it works correctly too)

JudasIscariot: Yes, you read right, Lords of the Realms 1 has been updated. However, we know you guys like positive surprises so we'll hold off on writing what the update was until you had a chance to run the new installer :)

(Trust me, you'll like it :D )
Thumbs one for that one but you are aware that Technical Manual (contains also lots of info about how to play the game) for LotR1 is missing from your release?
The CD version doesn't work for me. I'm using Windows 8.1 and the shortcut seems blank after installation, pointing to a 0Kb "choice.exe" file. I've tried reinstalling several times though. I managed to make it install fine by using Windows 7 compatibility on the installer, and the shortcut launches the choice screen. However, the game itself does not work, it just seems to hang for two seconds (nothing is shown, just desktop), then nothing, the processus disappears. I've downloaded the installer twice, it seems complete (and installs normally on another PC with Windows 7).

Best course of action here would be to write to our Support department and send us your DxDiag along with your email so we can get a better look at what's going on. Thanks :)

'choice.exe' needs to start another process, namely LORDSGER.EXE or LORDSUK.EXE, and it needs administrative privileges to do so. Either run choice.exe as admin, or try to launch one of these two files directly (for German and UK map respectively).
Thanks for the advice! Sadly though, it doesn't work. I've tried launching every .exe file in Admin mode or compatibility options (95, 98, XP, 7), and it just, well, does nothing. If I launch choice.exe, the first time it says the application didn't exit correctly. Also, when installing without compatibility mode, it seems the game get some files installed in the Lords of the Realms 1 folder, in addition to the "CD" folder. That's where I get a blank shortcut and choice.exe. Hmm... Support department, here am I!

It seems there was some mistake in installation code (Win8 only). We'll get it fixed shortly.
All shortcuts are empty files, did you try to launch .exe from 'Lords of the Realm I (CD)' folder?

Ah, all right. I'll wait then, good luck with this!

Edit: yes, I tried the .exe files from the "Lords of the Realm I (CD)" folder (in Admin mode). choice.exe does launch the choice window, but once I click on either maps it does "hang" (I mean, if I have my mouse pointer over an icon on the desktop, the selection box doesn't appear, for a few seconds, as if the game had the upper hand, then everything goes back to normal). The other .exe files don't work at all. I've been monitoring the task manager, and I can't see any of this .exe file shown in the processus list, or if they appear, it must be in a flash.
