I'm a long time fan of LotR2 but on my new computer build I cant get it to run without a Pink color theme covering the entire game...

Build:
OS: W764
CPU: AMD FX-8350
Chip Set: AMD 990FX
Video: AMD HD7970
Memory: 16GB 1600MHz
Hard Drives: 1.5TB WD and 2x1.0TB WD

I have already tried compatibility mode and several .bat file with no change including killing explorer.exe

Try some compatibility mode with 16-bit or 256 colors. I've had this happen to me ages ago and I think something in the compatibility mode colors is what fixed it.

EDIT: Shoot. You already tried this. -- send a screenshot if you would.

Another thing that has worked for other folks is to end explorer.exe.

Just before you start the game, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, visit Task Manager and end task explorer.exe.

And also if you attach an image of your compatibility mode, that would help, unless you are certain you've tried all the old Windows version with 256 color.

It's always hard to tell computer skills of peeps on these forums.

Edit 4 or 5: You could also disable all of the Windows 7 graphical stuff. It probably would hurt to make sure it's not installed in a protected location (program files, my docs, windows), disable UAC. I doubt those are issues, but I've been surprised before.

After that, my brain is at its end except attempt a reinstall or go crazy and put WinXP virtual machine or dual boot on your machine.

oh, and make sure you're not overriding software's graphics settings in your gfx card's control panel.

the only thing I haven't tried is a dual boot... like I indicated earlier this issue didn't start till the new computer build... I stated I tried LotR2 without exsplore.exe same issue...

and I'm a IT Tech been in the industry for 6 years I know most Microsoft platforms inside and out...

If i could get it in to windowed mode I could probably solve the issue

I've tried all the same things as Jonathan to no avail. Still hitting a brick wall.
Happens to me all the time. It usually goes away for me when I click into a village or alt+tab out and back. Seems to fix itself whenever it forced to redraw the screen.
