Alex9617: I am a bit disappointed in GOG. Their version of LOTR1 (the best of the 3, IMHO) is the earlier floppy disk version. The later, canonical version is the CDROM version which they have not posted.
The CDROM version contains bug fixes, game tweaks, a 2nd campaign map (of medieval Germany), a nice (for 1994) intro video and best of all, professional voice-acting from English actors. The voice acting puts many modern, big budget RPGs to shame (Bethesda, are you listening?).
GOG's posted version omits the Battle & Siege Manual, the walk-thru Manual (called the "Technical Manual"), 2 pages from the main Manual, and the "Historical Manual" which contained a literate essay on the early middle ages in England (yep - there were 4 manuals). Since both versions were published by Impressions, there cannot really be a copyright explanation for this.
Sloppy work, guys!
I am suffering from the same issue and would love a discount or what I was hoping for when I bought this game (which in format is rarely topped)The CDROM version contains bug fixes, game tweaks, a 2nd campaign map (of medieval Germany), a nice (for 1994) intro video and best of all, professional voice-acting from English actors.
