Hello, I just recently purchased Lords of Magic on GOG. Since I played the special edition disk version for countless hours many years ago, I noticed pretty quickly that the GOG version seems to be missing a lot of audio files. Specifically the voice overs for units, characters and buildings----they each use to have 2 or 3 phrases instead of only one each.

Though this may seem like a minor problem to some, I'm actually finding it to be pretty annoying and distracting. It just isn't Lords of Magic without those extra audio files for me. Is there any way to correct this? Or is the GOG version of lords of magic stuck this way?

I also happened to find my old special edition disk version of the game and I was wondering, if I was able to get it to work on windows 7, would save files from the GOG version of lords of magic be compatible with the disk version?

Are there any active fan sites/forums dedicated to lords of magic these days? Would be nice to find some other fans to chat with who loved the game as much as I did and still do.

Thanks for the help!

If you haven't already, could you please contact support about this issue. Hopefully they can fix it.

And I'd imagine nothing is going to stop the save games from not working. So they should work.
The only alive LOMSE community these days is Imperials United Forum, which is actually the message board for Mantera's LOMSE GS5 Mod. But classic LOMSE is also included.
Some fan projects are also alive, you can look at my one or Mantera's GS5 Mod.

Ah, forgot about another little community on Facebook too.

I believe your problem is connected with SNDFX.MPQ file (the sound files might just be ripped off for decreasing the required amount of hard drive space). Please tell me how much space it takes. In a normal version, it should take approximately 84 Mb.

Savegame files should work fine too if transfered, I think. I've never seen the files from GOG version, so I cannot answer exactly.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to check that forum out. Your project looks pretty interesting too. Guess I wasn't the only one who dreamed of creating my own custom legends of Urak as a kid lol. I always thought that they should have included a real custom campaign editor with LOMSE and the fact that they didn't really held the game back from achieving it's full potential. Thinking about it now, I'm sure there was a lot of fans who wanted to tell their own stories in the LOM world. LOM probably would've maintained a much larger community for a lot longer if that feature had been included.

I did try moving my saved game file from GOG's LOM version over to the savegame folder of my LOMSE CD version and it seems to work fine. It's actually working a lot better with my CD version, which seems to be more stable than the GOG version of LOM, which had been crashing about every hour or so. All the audio files seem to be intact on my LOMSE CD version and they're working fine with the transferred save file as well.

I found the SNDFX.MPQ file in both GOG"s LOM folder and my CD version folder. In both folders, the file seems to be the same size, 81.9MB. So, I don't know if that's the problem or not. It seems pretty clear to me though that GOG's version is quite different---and not in a good way, it crashes a lot more often, there's a lot more graphical glitches and of course, it's missing audio files. I read someone's comment somewhere that was saying GOG applied a bad patch to their LOM version which broke some stuff... so maybe that's why. My CD version, of course, has no patches applied to it.
Well, the application of fans' imagination was found in fan fiction. Many sites like LOM Tower or 8 Faiths Inn used to be active and full of text.
Also, some guys who are skilled in hex-editing have done several quests in savegame format. You can check out this topic or give me your email, so I will be able to send you LOMSE map collection and savegame quest collection as well.

I guess I am the first to make the quest in a classic shape, and it has already taken a big while. But I think that's worth it.
with the new version added, is the problem addressed here now fixed?
so I guess only Lords of the Realm was fixed, not Lords of Magic
People usually have to additionally download the game from torrents to fix the flawed MPQ files.
I wrote to GOG support to ask about the missing audio files and got back a reply that they will look into the matter.
I wrote to GOG support for the second time on this. I will write here any updates I will receive
Thanks for the updates. I'm holding off playing this game till this gets resolved.
here is GOG's response:

"Hello

There is a task in our assignments system to investigate and fix this issue, I'm unable to tell when someone will have time to complete it.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards"
With more than 2 months passed, are there any updates?

GOG Support says "it will be addressed" but they give no date.
