I see the Steam version has 50 achievements already on launch? What happened to the GOG version? Would love to pick this up but this is a pretty big hold up for me.

Achievements can be listed when you press the "Trophies" button on the game's main menu.

Oh, awesome, thanks for letting me know, didn't think they'd be in game.
It's okay, they are ingame, but it's a shame you don't get client achievements with gog, but with steam.

Actually ingame achievements are imho better as you can unlock them again when you start the game from 0 again and don't use any older save files. In GOG Galaxy once achievements are unlocked they stay unlocked. There is sadly no way to reset them (yet).
Honestly, ingame achievements are all I personally need for repetitive games(roguelikes, platformers, puzzle games). Though I recognize that GOG client based achievements are a nice bonus, since it ensures additional purchases from those that absolutely want them.

Which is why having both is great. For some reason in this case they still exist client-side on Steam, but not GOG, which is very unfortunate.

This.

The game costs the same on both stores therefore the GOG version should be on par with Steam, regardless of achievements being in game or not.

I was able to contact the developers via Twitter and received an encouraging response about the GOG Galaxy achievements: "Hello, we will try to handle it, first GOG launch for us."

I think as many people as possible should try to contact them, because the developers are not active in this forum and have no idea how much demand this feature really has. This is their official Twitter page and you can contact them privately by clicking on the envelope symbol: https://twitter.com/_FQteam

I also asked about the soundtrack and they have to ask their publisher, Devolver Digital, because they are in charge of it.

Thanks for the info. However I believe messaging the devs on Twitter is an option exclusively to those who use the platform (i.e. no DM option without an account). I think it's a sad state of affairs when the GOG customers have to go out of their way to ask the devs/publisher for the same benefits as those on Steam...

Also, not only do the devs completely neglect the GOG customer base but, after going through the newest post on their Twitter account, they seem to be busy adding even more stuff for the Steam users with the new Steam trading cards. Ridiculous.

I agree, I myself had to create a Twitter account to contact some particularly elusive developers. Unfortunately this is the state of affairs and there is not much choice.

GOG should be more strict about the completeness of their releases, but at the same time they may risk alienating developers, so I understand it's a fine line to walk.

The only way is always one, hope that more and more people buy on GOG so that it becomes a more and more important store that developers and publishers must take seriously into consideration.

Not that ridiculous if you consider they have already over 500k sales on steam.

The_Puppet94: 500k sales on steam.
The number is irrelevant, it might as well be 5 millions. It's about treating all customers with the same level of respect.

I agree with you on treating all customers with the same level of respect. But if I was a small Developer I too would focus first on my "´biggest" userbase, and to be frank as much as I love buying games DRM free on GOG. We are not even in our wildest dreams near the userbase steam has. So from an economic point of few it makes sense to serve steam customers first and others later if you don 't have the resources to serve all evenly fast. I don't like th epractice but I can understand it.
Agreed seeing achievements on steam but not on GOG is a real bummer . anytime a game gets submitted to GOG they should always give them the tools to add achievements to every game
