So...I see audio : english on the loom page so I assume this is the vga dos version?

If so, can gog upload the FM Towns version as a bonus please? The talkie version of loom made a lot of dialogue sacrifices, and to be honest I'd much rather have the extra dialogue then the voices.
I don't know the graphics show some obvious 16 color elements like the disstaff . It appears this might be the FM-Towns version. Not sure. Anyone have it to check?

FM-Towns came out between the dos and the VGA-CD IIRC. So it has some incomplete artwork using bits from the 16 color version..

I bit the bullet and downloaded it.

First thing that happened when I started it is a voice saying "please choose your skill level".

So dos vga it seems. :(

Shame, well we need to let GOG know we want the FM-TOwns version in addition to this one.

I may have been wrong on the order of release. It might have been the CD-rom version that came before the FM-Towns version, and has the incomplete art assets. Elements that are still in 16 color such as the distaff.
No, FM-Towns version came always before the CD or other VGA releases of the old games. Loom was shortened and altered afterwards. Zak FM-Towns version was forgotten, so it was never released outside Japan before.

And I hope to see Loom as uncut FM-Towns version AND as cut talkie version.

I hope the FM-Towns version will make its way on GOG, Loom is one of the few games, along with Freddy Pharkas, where the game got worse with the CD version. The FM-Towns version of Loom is pretty much the definitive version of the game considering it is very much like a stepping stone between the original floppy version and the CD version, with most of the uncensored, unabridged content of the former, and the enhanced graphics and soundtrack of the latter.
I am happy that we got the "talkie" version of Loom but I agree that we of course should have the other versions as extra for free when buying the game so I voted for it :)

Hmm. I was about to purchase this but I'm looking for the EGA version. The VGA version looks generic.
Necromancy, I know.
I too were concerned about which version it was, but considering the sale they had I picked it up regardless.

I remember playing it way back when on my brother's computer, I remember it having music, not just during cutscenes but also in general, unlike this version.
Sad really, part of what made Loom so magical was the background music from Swan Lake while you walked about the strange lands.

Here's hoping one day Gog might come with a more complete version.

I think the verson that always has music was the FMTowns one, and I think it was the only thing that I didn't like in that version because it could get too repetitive.

I am also unsure if the music triggers differ between the CD Talkie and the original EGA version, but the original version had music outside of cutscenes (albeit sometime the music would begin as part of a cutscene). Just not continuously.

It's a shame we don't have the original EGA version here yet, though. It may be missing the voice overs, but it is the better version story-wise and LOOM mythology-wise.

Same goes for no audio drama, which is a very essential part of the game, I'd say much more than the game's manual itself.
I find it a shame that GOG sold us just a ScummVM packaged version of the game.

You can find online the full game (and i mean, every single version) of all of these old games, and free. In fact, i already have the full collection (about 100GB).

I hoped to get some goodies. Now i just feel scammed.
(And i think The Dig and Indiana Jones games are the same case... i hope the Monkey Island series are something more :/)
