If anyone else is wondering:

The option to switch from gamepad to mouse control (or vise versa) does not seem to be available in-game, but depending on which (gamepad or mouse) you press a button on at the title screen, the game will default to that control method. It it still does not seem possible to use the keyboard to aim though (someone correct me if I am wrong about that please).
