Hi guys, I just bought Love for Sail and I'm getting this error.

I did what the support page about it said to do more than once, and still nothing.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition and I have plenty of RAM. I have no idea what could be causing the Error.

What did you try already? Did you install to C:\LARRY7\, give your user full permissions to the folder, run as administrator ...

I did all that, but I'm only now noticing it says 'special permissions' that it won't let me change, even as administrator.

I can't find the solution online either, any tips? I think this might be why I can't run Larry.

EDIT: When I was fiddling with the security setting for Larry again, I got this. (attached)

I have no idea, somehow it is not pointing to the right files, which i think can be edited in some config file.
Changing permissions only make it worse and you should reverse that and it is not necessary.

A workaround might be this to change it into the dosbox version. http://www.gog.com/forum/leisure_suit_larry_series/lsl_7_dosbox_version

Thanks a bunch! I'm gonna try this right now. I hope I don't FUBAR it further, I don't have much experience with Dosbox... and it's been over 2 decades since I used DOS ~_~.

And yeah, the special permissions seemed weird since it just said I needed ownership of the folder, which I have.

EDIT: I think I'm using DOSBox right, but sier.eve isn't working because my system is 32 bit. Is there a 64 bit version?

All attempts to google it just come up with things totally unrelated and I have no idea how to narrow my search.

There is no special 64 bit version of dosbox, the dosbox you download or get from any dos game from GOG you can also run. (I have 64bit too)
I think if its giving a 32bit error then it is trying the windows version rather then the dos version.

Sorry I don't have the GOG version of larry 7 else I could have helped you more specific.

Btw have you checked this?http://www.gog.com/support/leisure_suit_larry_love_for_sail/panic_error_can_not_find_999pal_resource

or this https://www.google.nl/#q=larry+7+can_not_find+999+pal+resource

If still not working try sending a support ticket, they are very helpful.

Yeah, I have the same problem, I was told to run Sier.exe in DOSBox, but the only .exe I have is Sierw5.exe which is a windows only executable, so that's 6 bucks I may aswell have shoved up my assgina.

EDIT: Fixed it by downloading Eric Oakford's DOS binary, cheers dude :)

Btw, to those running in DOS and experiencing breaks in sound you just have to increase cycles (CTRL + F12) until around 15000, then it runs smooth as hell. The game was designed for a Windows 95 machine, so you need to beef up the DOS cycles.

Hey, late to the party, but a windows 8.1 user here.

My game is installed on my Y drive, with my Steam games, and gives me the panic error.

I renamed the complex directory name to Larry7, as many have suggested, and it didn't work. Ran it from C/D/E and it didn't work.

Put everything back the way it was (in the steam directory), keeping the Larry7 name, so my game is located in

Y:\Steam\Steamapps\common\Larry7

I then opened RESOURCE.WIN, in notepad and changed all the paths that were

Y:\steam\steamapps\common\Leisure Suit Larry 7 - Love For Sail\

To the simpler larry7 directory

And it works perfectly now
i had the same problem. i installed larry on my "G" Drive within the normal GOG folder. the first 2-3 game starts, it worked perfectly. but then the strange 999.pal ressource error came.

i manually change the path in the "RESSOURCE.WIN" to "G:\Larry7" and now it works again. thx for the tip :)
I have had a CD copy of LSL7 since it was first released, but rather than look for it, I bought the discounted LSL bundle for next to nothing from GOG this weekend...
So LSL7 refuese to start (with the 999.pal error)... when I tired to install it to the directory with the other LSLs... H:\games\GOG\Leisure Suit Larry\Leisure Suit Larry7.

The issue is spaces in the directory names....

Installed and ran successfully in various long name directories like H:\games\GOG\Leisure_Suit_Larry\Leisure_Suit_Larry7.
Used underscores to replace the spaces or just left spaces out...
BTW...Have been using computers since MSDos 1.0 & PC DOS 1.0 (on 51/4" floppies) and always felt uncomfortable with long files and spaces in file names! DOS!

TriniMage: The issue is spaces in the directory names....
Thanks for getting to the crux of the problem.
Renamed my dir to use underscores, and created a top-level GOG_Games directory link to my existing "GOG Games" directory. I should've known there would be issues with spaces at some point!
I was having this problem. I tried all the steps listed to fix it to no avail. Then I realized I was installing it through the GOG Galaxy program. On a hunch I downloaded the installer from the website and installed it to "C:\Larry7". It booted right up with no issues, and I didn't need to edit any resource.win or anything else at all.
