So I am only on the third floor, but I find the normal difficulty really easy so far. even with bulks of those spear wielding undead there is no real danger. There seems to be an abundance of food and torches too.

They said that starting your first game on Hard would be a bad idea, so I am hoping the difficulty will start to increase a lot soon.

Does the difficulty also affect food and torch drop? Or only enemy difficulty?
I'm on lvl three and had a little problem with the first spider - nasty creature. I suspect more problems on the following levels :)
Hard is actually very balanced, I recommend.
Just wait until you run into the spiders. Ugh...
I find it ok, it's not a huge challenge but not a complete cakewalk either. I'm on the third level and suspect the game's gonna get much harder from now on. Can imagine facing a bunch of those spiders in a closed room is not gonna be a holiday by the seaside.
I play it on easy (no jokes please) and find that it is hard enough for me. The riddles are the things I enjoy more than the fights, but i will try a harder mode when i'll finish my first run with the standard party.

I have done that too. I want the story, and to get into it. I've never played this kind of game before. All you guys talking about Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder, I just never got into them. However, I'm having a blast, albeit an easy one, and I can see coming back for more on Hard after finishing it the way I am going now.
I am almost done with Level 2 and was thinking the same thing; however, the first few levels should be relatively easy in order to suck you into the game and give you a fighting chance to develop your characters. The real test will be how tough Levels 7-13 feel.
Until level 3, I too found Normal not too challenging - but good thing, allowed me to get comfortable with the game. Then the masses of spiders ramped up the difficulty a lot for me - no, I don't need hard after all that poison...
Level 1 and 2 are super easy. Level 3 is making me rip my hair out. I feel like I've killed 8,000 spiders and they keep coming out of nowhere. I am having a REALLY hard time getting thru it, its really starting to frustrate me. Yeah the spiders just don't quit. They definitely continually spawn behind you.

Maybe there is a nest you have to destroy, or a hole in the wall you need to plug? Man, now I am getting excited for Level 3!
Yeah I thought the same thing after choosing normal difficulty. Made it to level 3 in a matter of seconds, got stuck in one of the puzzles in level 3 (just figured it out a few minutes ago :p) then I got to the spiders and my first game over finally happened :P.

I had the same suspicion, but in the end - they don't respawn, they just move where you dont expect them, including teleporters. Make sure to get the nests/eggs, too - that's where I think news spiders come from.
Finally beat level 3 and here's something interesting...I was backtracking to resurrect my guys and an earthquake happened. I found something in a hallway that I'd already explored. I think it shook a gold key from the ceiling. I'm almost positive it wasn't there before. Maybe I just missed it the first time.

I experienced an earthquake on Level 2, so it is possible you found a key you happened to miss. Did anyone else find a golden key on Level 3 without an earthquake?
