One of the reasons this game has always been so memorable for me is the weird lo-fi unit responses. I was hoping to extract them to compile as a voicepack to mod into other games, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get at the sound effects files for this game. Is it at all possible? Are they irretrievably locked into the executable or something? Any help or advice would be great.
for kknd1: sure, scan for wave format headers, so possible. kknd2 is encrypted. You need to put a high amount of work into decrypting it first.

What I ended up doing was run recording software while i was playing the game, start an AI skirmish, turn the music off and then click on buildings and order dudes around until I captured all the sounds I wanted, and then edit the recording down to each individual response, saving each as its own file. A bit tedious, but it worked like a charm and I didn't need to teach myself decryption techniques :p
