KKnD was quite challenging for me, back in the days. I'm looking to buy KKnD2: Krossfire on GOG, but only if I can play it with -badnews, which activates cheat mode.

Could anyone tell me if the GOG version of the game supports this command line parameter?

Yes, KKnD2: Krossfire does support the "-badnews" command line parameter. To activate Cheat Mode in-game simply press Ctrl + Tab and a message "Cheats Enabled" appears.

Thanks but, before I close the thread I want to know whether you tried this with the GOG version of KKnD2.
I can confirm that it works with the GOG version - see pic.

Also, you must press [CTRL] and [TAB] together at exactly the same time. It may take you a little while to hit them together.

We're in the GOG forum and you were asking for the GOG version, so of course I meant the GOG version. o_O7
I was pretty sure it works, but to be completely sure, I re-downloaded the current version, installed it and checked it first hand.

Thank you. I have purchased KKnD2.
Well I've been hammering away at CTRL + TAB for over 30 minutes and NO DICE AT ALL with "Cheats Enabled".

I think this GOG version DOES NOT allow the -badnews cheat.

Oh yes - they've fixed THAT haven't they - they fix the stuff we DONT want "fixing"..... but total game destroying bugs like the "Mission Failed WTF?" bug and the "Can't build unit" bug are NOT fixed.

Last time I downloaded and checked it, it worked and I'm pretty sure it still does.

You have to edit the game's shortcut properties and add -badnews in the target field, like
"C:\GOG Games\KKND Krossfire\Kknd2.exe" -badnews

Now start the game with the edited shortcut and while playing a scenario, hit Ctrl+Tab. Maybe there's a little delay, so don't hit it several times, but wait for "Cheats Enabled" to appear.

Yep, edited the shortcut as shown.

Still hammering away at CTRL + TAB, fast or slow, to no effect at all! "Cheats Enabled" just won't show!

This cheat just doesn't work!

Even Cheat Engine won't hack it..... how hard can searching for and hacking just one 4-byte value (for the oil amount) be? CE finds it perfectly OK - but just won't alter it - it's as if KKND2 has some hidden "anti-cheat backup value" somewhere that just overrides Cheat Engine constantly! Wargames European Escalation is the same with it's reinforcement points!

So, just to be sure, are you pressing both keys at the same time? As I said before, it can take some time. ;)

It still works. I've just downloaded and installed the current version and tried it again (see screenshot). As posted above, the trick is to press both keys Ctrl and Tab at the same time. It doesn't work when you press and hold Ctrl and then add Tab.

Yes I am pressing CTRL + TAB at the same time. Not one after the other. Not one held down first and then the other.

I've got the shortcut setup as shown in the attachment.

Tonight I tried it again, over an hour and what must have been 3000 + presses of CTRL + TAB and it didn't happen once.

I have at least found a working cheat table for Cheat Engine - but that only helps on missions where you have a base and use oil resource points. On missions such as the impossible "Kamikaze Squad" which I'm ripping my hair out with right now, resource points cheats are meaningless.

That's odd. The only difference in my shortcut is that the "Start in" field closes with a backslash
"E:\KKND2 Krossfire\" instead of "E:\KKND2 Krossfire"
Check the compatibility tab, I don't use any compatibility mode or setting.

Which Windows version are you using?

I was wondering if it's my keyboard..... the CTRL and TAB keys work fine everywhere else, but maybe it's not seeing when they're both pressed together perhaps?

I'm betting the backslash thing you mentioned is the problem. It only needs one tiny little punctuation mark to be wrong!!!!!

BTW I'm using it on a modern PC - well, "fairly" modern - it's a six years old system - but with an old XP OS. I'd been setting it run using Windows 98 compatability as I heard it helps with the "mission failed" and "cant build units" bugs. Which it hasn't really helped with unfortunately!!!!!
