shakantala: In Chapter 4, when I enter the conservatory I get this message:

Error 99: Error Loading Resource 10840 v.56

And then the game crashes.
I've tried replaying the section about 10 times now, and it crashes every time. Specifically, it happens when I click on Naomi.

The troubleshooting article isn't helping at all. My graphics card is already updated, DirectX is installed, etc.
I have Windows XP, if that helps . . .
yup exact same problem here.
I also have this problem (along with the missing temple one) on vista. It's pretty frustrating.

I wonder if there are people who DON'T have this problem, it would be good to hear from them...although if they didn't have a problem, then they'd probably have no reason to come to the forum...

Nales: I ran into the same issue (except for me it occured earlier in chapter 4 and with resource 22800 instead), and I found a solution that's working so far, although it's rather tedious.
Basically the game fails to load a certain graphic resource, so you need to make it load the resources from a CD (or an ISO) rather than from the BIA folder.

First download the .msi file from this site (don't install it yet) :
http://www.squirtthecat.com/games/betrayal_in_antara/index.html
Then you'll need an ISO of the three game CDs. I found mine through a Torrent, but I doubt it's legal to post a link here.
Mount CD 2 with Daemon Tools or similar, then launch the .msi file to install a 'patched' version of BIA that works with XP / Vista / 7. (I guess it's close to GoG's version, except it loads the stuff from the CDs)
When prompted for the CD drive, make sure to pick the one that's being used by Daemon Tools.

Now find the RESOURCE.WIN file in the BIA folder you just installed, open it with Wordpad, and replace everything with this :

[Windows]
leakCheck=TRUE
resSFX=CD:\
view=.;CD:\resource
etc=.;CD:\resource
pic=.;CD:\resource
resAud=CD:\
RequireDAC=TRUE
message=.;CD:\resource
joyDrv=NO
useDirectDraw=FALSE
CD:=E:\
moviedir=.;CD:\resource
palette=cd:\
titleBar=TRUE
cacheSize1=600
discID=RESSCI
resCDisc=CD:\
resMap=CD:\
AllowResize=FALSE
useDirectSound=TRUE
audio=.;CD:\resource
cacheSize3=100
title=Betrayal in Antara

Launch the game (it shows up as Sierra / Betrayal in Antara in the shortcut menu) and you should no longer have the crash. You'll have to mount a different CD at different parts of the game, just use Alt + Tab to change the mounted image when prompted.

Hope this works for you. I spent a few hours trying to figure it out, so I'm not 100% sure those steps are correct. Tell me if you run into another problem.
Has anyone actually tried this? It sounds like it just installs a version off the CD and runs that instead, which kind of defeats the point of getting the GOG version at all.
This a known bug of the unpatched game. GOG needs to upload the patched version. Else, get the betrayal at antara patch. It might work with the gog version.
We are going to adapt our version to the patch removing the bug as soon as possible.
Yup, getting the same resource thing at Naomi and whatever mobs I encounter to combat. Kinda sad too since the game kinda picks up from Chapter 3 haha. I'll wait for the patch then and play other games till then.

The stand alone patch is a 16 bit installer - Won't work on a 64-bit system. I guess we wait for GOG to update their version.
Betrayal at Krondor/Antara would load up and after a minute or two windows would let me know this game has stopped working. Anybody else having this same problem. I am playing on Windows 7 64 bit OS

Please post here when it's fixed. I’ve been stuck for over 6 months. Thanks.
Just a few more cents (we're getting to a dollar, at this rate!) - I'm missing yonder temple, and can't get far enough in to actually complete.. problematic, no? :(
I am getting this error for me. It is right after Raalf has rescued the trio and I am attempting to head to the Shepard's base (Chapter 4). ANY battle I enter causes this, I have not had an issue talking to the merchant with the wagon or any of the merchants in town. Just battle prompts this error, and some battles I cannot sneak around.
there are people who are futher then cha 1? I think im bad with this game ;p

Yes, lol I missing the temple, but I just forget about that sub-quest, and the errors that I get at the start at some battles I just go around...BUT in the beginning of Chapter 4 I run in to that Error again, and now there are only 1 way to go... so I'm stuck... cant get past that point...so I have to wait for a patch or a FIX...

I am so sad this game still hasn't been fixed since last year. Its one of my favorites! Sob.
