Just curious whether anyone else has seen a crash during the prologue?

It started just fine, but part way through the prologue, (After the "Something was pursuing them...)

it crashed with a nasty message.

6Gb RAM
1.5 Terrabytes HD

Same issue, on Win7 x64. Crash also randomly happens during play.

Hmm.. I'll have to see if I have that issue. I was able to get past the intro(s) by using the ESC key twice. Not optimal though. Update - It may be a multi-core affinity issue. I patched the game exe using imagecfg.exe, setting the CPU affinity to #1. Both the prologue and chapter one intro movies play without a hitch. In terms of random in-game crashes, it's still wait and see.. But at least this change IS encouraging.

I haven't bothered trying to watch the intro again, but I'll do the same fix and check. Meanwhile, after restarting my computer (due to some unrelated software updates), the in-game crashes seem to have stopped.

I set compatability to Win 98, and disabled desktop composition and themes, and was able to finish the videos. Haven't played very far yet though.

Same problem as OP, but I don't know anything about imagecfg.exe. I'm hoping there will be an "official" way to fix this.

More than likely any of the other applications on the 'net that allow you to change CPU affinity on multi-core systems, would provide the same benefit. Imagecfg.exe is actually an old DOS utility created by Intel, which physically changes a setting in the header of the application (exe) file, so that the system knows ahead of time that it needs to be tied to a single CPU. I have a crash that happens at the same spot in the intro, after several attempts it is always when Aren is about to do something he says Aaaarg and then it crashes. I don't want to mess with things I know nothing about, which means I don't want to try and mess with Imagecfg.exe is there anything else that can be done?

Just to say that the ‘imagecfg.exe’ fix has worked for me.
That is, it does set the affinity to single core (CPU 0) and the game no longer crashes during the prologue. But I have not played the game itself yet.
For those like me who are not experts this is how I figured it out.

Download imagecfg.exe and place it in C:\windows\system32 folder.
(you can get it via the link below)

Now you can run it from the ‘run’ command line in the start menu.

This is the command I put in the run command line:

imagecfg -a 0x1 "C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Betrayal Pack\Betrayal in Antara\ANTARAR.EXE"
…..and hit ‘return’.

(NB this gives the default install location for Antara so you will need to adjust it if you have installed elsewhere. Better still - right click on the desktop shortcut and copy and paste the location from the ‘target’ box into the command)

Same problem. Trying what siddham suggested did not seem to help, I'm afraid.

I have used the same method to set other programs to run only on one cpu so it should work.
Are you sure you followed the instructions properly and put the correct filepath into the command line?

I set the compatiblity for the program to "Windows 95" and "run as Administrator" with the game Icon, and the prolog played correctly without crashing.

Win 7 64 bit, I5-750, 4Gig memory. Couldn't get the processor affinity to set for a single processor for some reason.

Have the same problem on win 7 64 bit. Didn't try the solutions yet - ill tell later how did it go.

Had the same problem. I set it for Win95 compatibility and hit Esc to get through the intro and so far it's working. Only just started playing so don't know if anything else will mess up but it's nice to play again!
